Kincardine Hair Connection Atom LL1 Second Game of Home and Home vs. Mildmay
Kincardine Hair Connection Atom LL1 travelled to Mildmay on Sunday, 14Feb2010 for their return playoff game with Mildmay. In the previous game Kincardine LL1 gave Mildmay a good run until a let-up with four minutes left in the game. Kincardine was planning to better that performance with a complete game performance in Mildmay.
Kincardine once again started well. Ryan (#8) made a good effort at the defensive blueline to break up a Mildmay chance on the first shift of the game. Colton (#14) got the puck deep into Mildmay’s end on the second shift, with Darian (#3) following up for a shot at net. Payton (#8) fought hard at the side of the net for the rebound. Ariel (#11) kept the puck in at the blueline. Isaac (#9) aggressively pursued the puck in his own zone resulting in a big collision with a Mildmay player. Cameron (#6) continued to improve his play at defense, doing a great job getting the puck up the boards with authority. With 4:15 left in the game, Tyler (#1) came up with a huge save on a breakaway. Late in the period Payton (#8) cleared the zone up the middle and Darian (#3) skated hard to pick it up, crossed the blueline and got off a nice shot at net. In the dying seconds of the period, Kincardine figured that the period would end and let up watching a Mildmay player skate through the team to score with 1.9 seconds left in the period.
In the second period, Darian (#3) took the puck deep into the Mildmay end, made a nice move to get a shot at net and then picked up a the rebound just missing the net on a deke. Mildmay cranked up the pressure forcing Tyler (#1) to stop another breakaway halfway through the period. Tyler then stopped a hard point shot, then the rebound to the side of the net and finally pounced on the puck. Late in the period, Payton (#8) beat the defense wide and was taken down resulting in a Kincardine power-play. Kincardine kept the pressure on Mildmay but couldn’t score. The period ended 0-1 for Mildmay.
Early in the third period, a Mildmay forward took the puck out of the corner and beat two defenseman for a shot at net. Tyler (#1) made the stop, but the rebound came back to the forward who banked it off Tyler’s stick and into the net. Kincardine worked hard to get back into the game. Matt (#12) rushed the puck from his end up wing and took a nice hard wrist shot at the net that was gloved, with Michael (#13) going hard to the net for the rebound. Brendan (#10) banked the puck off the boards out of his end to Colton (#14) who took it all the way down the ice and made a nice feed across the net that was just tipped wide by Darian (#3). Matt (#12) made another rush up the ice taking another hard shot that was stopped by a good glove save. Darian (#3) won the draw and got a shot at net. Darian (#3) later took the puck to the net and got a shot off, picked up the rebound taking it around the net, centering it to Payton (#8) who’s shot was stopped. Despite their best effort, Kincardine could not beat the Mildmay goalie. Tyler (#1) played an amazing game making 33 stops. This was one of Kincardine’s best efforts to date against a very strong team.
