vs Goderich
Submitted By volunteer on Thursday, November 05, 2009
On Saturday, October 31, the Canadian Tire Atom Reps traveled to Goderich for the Halloween Bowl. Goaltender Jamie Brock played well through the first holding the Sailors to a 0-0 tie. The defensive pair of Alice Thorpe and Danny Skinner kept the Sailors from any second chance scoring opportunities. Goderich took the lead, however, in the second period as the Kinucks could not establish much offense.

Down 3-0 with nine minutes left, Manager Dick Skinner felt a Halloween pep talk was required – with thoughts of mini-bars and nibs on the brain young Skinner picked up the puck form his own end and danced around five Sailors and fired a shot top shelf. Skinner wasn’t done yet and blasted a shot from the point after Bryce McFadden won the face-off deep inside the Sailors zone.

The Kinucks had woken up and were now down only a goal. After some battles along the boards the Sailors passed the puck in front of the net and Brock had no chance as Goderich took a two goal lead heading into the last two minutes.

Off the next face off and with his parents cheering from the stands, Rhys Vollmer won the draw, skated by the defense and beat the Sailors goalie. Time was against the Kinucks – and after an empty net goal the final score was Goderich 5 and Kincardine 3.
