Another Tough Win for the Boys!!!
The Kincardine Old Timers Bantam Local League hosted the strong Tiverton team on February 18 in yet another game in the playoff round robin. When these 2 teams meet, there is always plenty of action as they are well matched.
With Kevin Chau between the pipes for the Old Timers, Kincardine opened the scoring early in the 1st period when Captain Jason McDonell smacked one in with the assistance of Nikhil Deshpande and Logan Shewfelt. After some great end to end play, Shewfelt rang the chimes on a nice set up by Brendan McCartney and Jordan Bell. Tiverton took advantage of a power play and Craig Alexander lit up the lights with the assists going to Noah VanVeen and Scott Wharry. Kincardine’s Marcel Fohkens deked everyone out of their shorts and scored Kincardine’s third goal, unassisted. With seconds left on the clock, McDonell and Bell set up McCartney to score the final goal of the first period. Kincardine, unable to keep the penalty box empty for too long gave Tiverton a man advantage and once again Alexander bulged the twine this time, unassisted. With the score at 4-2 going into the third, both teams battled it out. Great saves by both Chau of Kincardine and Craig Takken of Tiverton. Shewfelt and McCartney set up Bell to put one top shelf where they keep the peanut butter for Kincardine’s final goal of the evening. Kincardine defenseman, Corey Fair deserves kudos for his outstanding effort every minute that he is on the ice. Tiverton closed out the scoring with a beauty goal by Wharry nicely set up by VanVeen and Andrew Tovey. Final Score Kincardine 5, Tiverton 3.
