Lucknow Tournament Champs!!!
The Kincardine Old Stars Bantam LL team travelled to Lucknow on Sunday March 14, 2010 to compete in the Elaine Irwin Memorial Tournament.
The boys started off the day with their first game against Norwich. The team came out strong and were ready to score some goals. With great team work and Goaltending duties of Brad Liddle and Kevin Chau they earned the win with a 12-1 score to advance. Goals were awarded to Jordon Bell(2), Logan Shewfelt(2), Brendan McCartney(2), Jason McDonnell(2), Aidan Calcutt(2), Marcel Fohkens(1) and Ryan Swift(1). Assists – Jordon Bell(1), Brent McDonald(2), Marcel Fohkens(1), Aidan Calcutt(2), Logan Shewfelt(5) and Geordie Farrell(1).
With the win the Old Stars advanced to meet Tiverton with goaltending duties assigned to Seamus Small and Kevin Chau. As in the past these two teams were out to play hockey. Tiverton opened the scoring in the first and held Kincardine to a 1-0 score going into period 2. Kincardine got on the board early in the second to tie the game with an unassisted goal by Marcel Fohkens. Tiverton fought back to take the lead a minute later. Kincardine didn’t let up. Aidan Calcutt netted one on a pass from Logan Shewfelt and Marcel Fohkens. Kincardine would score again when Logan Shewfelt found the back of the net on a pass from Aidan Calcutt. With just 34 seconds left in the 2nd period Kincardine would carry a lead of 4-2 into the third period with a goal by Sam Netzke from Brent McDonald and Jason McDonnell. Tiverton came on strong in the third and with 3 minutes left found a hole and tied the game. No overtime was played and they went straight to a shot out. With great goaltending by Kevin Chau to stop all three shots and an awesome goal by Jason McDonnell the Old Stars would advance to the Championship game against Twin Centre.
In the Championship match, the goaltending duties fell on Seamus Small and Brad Liddle. Kincardine opened the scoring in the first with a goal by Jason McDonnell assisted by Marcel Fohkens. Near the end of the first Sam Netzke scored on a rush with Jordon Bell and Logan Shewfelt. Twin Centre scored with just seconds left in the first period. The Old Stars were able to hold Twin Centre off in the second with some great defensive play by our defensive lines of Scott Smith, Cory Fair, Ryan Swift and Geordie Farrell and they picked up another goal by Aiden Calcutt, assisted by Logan Shewfelt and Jordon Bell. The boys would add to their lead in the third with goals by Logan Shewfelt, Jason McDonnell and Marcel Fohkens with the assists to Jason McDonnell, Sam Netzke, Brendan McCartney and Cory Fair to take the Championship by a score of 6-1.
