Hawgs Breath Midget Girls Win Big
Kincardine soundly beat Beaver Valley 6-0 in the first game of the Year End Playoff tournament March 27 & 28 in Tara. Meagan McDonald earned a shut out and played strong throughout the weekend.
First to get on the score sheet was Sam Bianco with assists going to Anna McFarland and Jenna Rees. Rees was the next to score from a pass from McFarlan ending the first period 2-0. With thirty-five seconds left in the second period Carly Schmidt skated in from defense to put one in. Assist goes to Kaitlyn McDonell. With three seconds left Kincardine's Morgan Padfield with a pass from McDonell fires the puck in making the score 4-0. The third period saw McFarlan beat the goalie with a pass from Taylor Nashiem and Rees. The final goal was scored Cayly Bellan with assist going to McDonell and Padfield.
Kincardine then played Chatsworth to a tense 3-2 win. At the end of the second period the girls from Chatsworth were winning 2-0. Kincardine came off the bench determined to make a mark in the third. With less then 2 minutes into play McDonell scored unassisted. Bellan then scored making it 2-2. Breaking the tie was McDonell with an assist by Bianco. The next 9 minutes was "on the edge of your seats" action. Hawgs Breath won 3-2.
The final game was against Markdale Sunday afternoon. Kincardine fans packed the bleachers to support the girls. The fans weren't disappointed. Scoring in the first period was Padfield assisted by McDonell. In the second period Bellan scored with assists from McDonell and Kate McCallum. Then McDonell scored with a pass from Bellan. Closing out the second with a goal was Rees. Assists go to McFarlan and Bellan. Kincardine went into the third period winning 4-0. Bianco was first to score with an assist from Rees. Next to score was Bellan from an pass from McFarlan. With under four minutes left in the game Markdale scored their lone goal followed by a goal by McDonell. Assists go to Padfield and McFarlan. Final score 7-1.
These three wins gave the girls the gold medal in the White division Year End playoffs. Congratulations Hawgs Breath midget rep girls!
