First Games of the new Year
Submitted By Barry Jones on Sunday, January 23, 2011
Kincardine Legion Kinucks started out the week tired from too much Christmas or maybe too much World Junior excitement, Jan 4th vs. Hanover.

The game started off quietly with teams looking pretty even.  The Kimucks seemed to be moving slow and the period ended 0-0 without a lot of opportunities for either team,

Hanover came on stronger in the second with a couple of shots stopped by Luinstra and a power play chance.  Still 0-0 at the end of second.

Finally in the third a nice try by Ethan Long is stopped by Hanover's netminder but followed up with a goal by Long assisted by Andrew Potter and Virat Tripathi.  Hanover on the power play scores on Luinstra, making it 1-1.  After much digging Potter scores with help from Brett Burrows and Ethan Long.  The third period ends with a penalty against the Kinucks and one on Hanover too, the final is 2-1.

The Kincardine Kinucks next met up with Mount Forest at home Jan. 6th and lost 2-1, all goals were scored in the third period.  Kincardine’s lone goal was scored by Ethan Long assisted by Brett Burrows and Andrew Potter.

They then travelled to Chesley to take on Arran Elderslie Jan. 8th  and took away a 6-0 win and a shut out for Craig Luinstra.  Goals were scored by Bradley Pickett, Andrew Leshied, Long(2), Potter and Burrows with assists offered from Long, Burrows(2), Jakob Dunlop, Ben Netzke, Lesheid, Pickett, Grant Stevens and Kurt Dunsbier.

The PeeWees final game of the season took place at home against the Saugeen Shores Storm Jan 13th.  Both teams were looking for the win as they are currently ranked one and two in their WOAA division.  The game started fast and furious in Kincardine's end and a goal on Ethan Primeau.  Burrows got a nice pass to Long who passed to Potter and in, 1-1.

The second period started with the action in Kincardine's end again.  Primeau got some good saves but there a little too close for this goalie Mom.  Kincardine gets a power play opportunity and is unable to get a shot on net.  The action moves back and forth but Kincardine is unable to get many shots on Saugeen Shores goalie.  End of second, still 1-1.

The Kinucks started off the third with a five hole goal from Long assisted by Burrows followed by a penalty for Kincardine.  The puck was nicely cleared by Andrew Potter and Brett Colhoun.  A goal by Pickett assisted by Caleb Campbell and Dunlop made it 3-1 but the Storm continued to fight back.  Kincardine got another power play opportunity with just one shot on net, no goal.  Some beautiful skating by Burrows was a pleasure to watch but no scoring chance.  Saugeen pulled their goalie but  the final score is 3-1 for the Kinucks.

Kincardine has a bye in first round of playoffs and will face winner of Walkerton and Listowel in the next couple of weeks.
