Kincardine LL2 Happy to be Home
Kincardine LL2 returned home to host Ripley on Sunday 15Mar2009.  The return to their home ice proved to be just what was needed following a tough loss on the road the day before.

Both teams skated well in the first period, with the puck moving from end to end, but no real quality scoring chances materializing.

In the second period, Kincardine cranked it up a notch.  Early in the period, the puck was cleared up the boards by Virat (#4) to Rachit (#2) who chipped it out over the blueline.  Chris (#15) picked it up, weaved through the Ripley defenders and deked the Ripley goalie putting it in on the stick side.  Aggressive puck pursuit led to Ripley turnovers.  Michael (#6) poke checked a Ripley attacker at centre ice.  Hogan (#11) picked up the turnover, skated over the blueline and cut into the middle launching a wrist shot into the top glove side for Kincardine's second goal.  At the four minute mark, Chris (#15) fed a beautiful pass up the middle just out of reach of the Ripley defender to a streaking Rocket (#2) for a breakaway.  The Ripley goalie made a great save to keep the puck out.  Minutes later, another turnover led to a shot at net from the blueline by Virat (#4) with Michael (#6) standing at the doorstep to poke in the rebound that was bouncing around between the goalie's pads.  Ripley then had a one-on-one rush that was thwarted by Brendan (#10) when he angled the attacker into the corner and then got his stick in the way of the shot.  Good back checking by all the forwards ensured that the puck was then cleared.  The score at the end of the second was 3-0 for Kincardine.

In the third period, Kincardine let up some on the back checking which led to an early Ripley goal.  Less than half a minute later, Virat (#4) responded with a shot through the five-hole off a face-off in the Ripley zone to restore the three goal lead.  Ripley didn't quit and scored another goal two minutes later as Kincardine stood around watching a Ripley forward weave around the defence and score on a shot through the five-hole.  Kincardine then tightened up defensively.  Alex (#8) did a good job backing up his partners and clearing the zone up the boards.  Brendan (#10) covered his man in front of the net and broke up and cleared passes that were made into the slot.  Kincardine then had a three way passing play from Hogan (#11) to Michael (#6) and finished off by the Rocket (#2) with a move across the front of the net before tucking it in the open side.  Late in the game, Chris (#15) once again skated the puck end to end only to be stopped by the Ripley goalie.  Ryan (#16) was well positioned in front of the net to bang away at a rebound that did not find its way through the goalie.  To top of a well played game, Alex (#1) came up with a big save with twelve seconds on the clock on a point blank shot to retain the 5-2 win for Kincardine.
