Sobey’s Peewee Girls Claim Bronze at Provincials
Sobey’s Peewee Girls completed a successful weekend at the OWHA Provincial Championships winning five of six games to win the bronze medal.

The Peewees began the tournament Friday with wins against Napanee and Kitchener.  Kincardine’s first game was a 3-0 shutout over Napanee.  Hailey Allen scored two and Victoria Krulicki chipped in with one for the win.  Assists went to Krulicki, Cassidy Colhoun and Jessica Satosek.  Friday’s second win was a spirited 3-0 win over the Kitchener Lady Rangers.  Allen again led the charge with 2 goals and Maddie Duncan added a single.  Assists went to Colhoun and Mikhayla Bowes.  Kincardine finished off their round-robin play with an 8-0 win over North Simcoe.  The Kinucks spread the scoring with goals going to Allen (2), Krulicki (2), Bowes, Colhoun, Duncan and Lauren Jolley.   Assists went to Colhoun (4), Satosek, Bowes, Vanessa Hodgins (3), Dakota Smith, and Laura Mangotich.

With the three wins, Kincardine finished first in their pool and earned a birth in the quarter-finals against Lower Lakes League champions Woodstock.  The game was a back-and-forth affair with Kincardine at times in penalty trouble.  Eventually the Kinucks’ conditioning work paid off and the local squad dominated the second and third periods.  Allen scored the only goal of the game with 4 minutes left on a great passing play from Hodgins and Bowes to give Kincardine the 1-0 win.  The defensive tandems of Mangotich and Jolley, Smith and Duncan tuned away many Woodstock rushes to shut down the Woodstock attack.  Morgan Baker made a number of game-saving stops to earn her 4th shutout of the tournament.

The Kinucks’ semi-final game early Sunday morning was against the eventual gold medalists Smiths Falls Cubs.  Kincardine opened the scoring with Colhoun scoring from Krulicki and Satosek.  Unfortunately the girls could not hold on and Smiths Falls came back for a 3-1 win.  Kincardine did not have long to lament and had to recover for a 12 noon tilt against Toronto Leaside for the bronze medal.  It was obvious from the beginning that Kincardine came to play as Allen opened the scoring only 30 seconds into the game (unassisted).  The Kinucks never looked back adding 3 more goals for a 4-1 eventual score.  Allen potted one more from Krulicki and Satosek.  Nicole McLeod scored a beauty on a pass from Colhoun with an additional assist going to Hodgins.  Duncan finished off the scoring with a helper from Smith.

The girls and parents wish to thank coaches Corey Colhoun and Dave Baker, trainers Trish Bowes and Kelly Colhoun and Manager Ivan Mangotich for all their time and dedication this year.  See you in September.
