The Kinucks played at the Sweetheart tournament in Orangeville on Jan. 16-18th.
The Kinucks went through the round robin action undefeated to place first in their pool.  This included a 2-2 tie with Barrie, a 4-1 victory over the National Predators, and a 1-1 tie with Clearview.

Goals against Barrie during the Friday game were scored by Rachel W. from Mercedes B. and Tegan M., and by Mercedes unassisted.  Mercedes also received MVP honours for the game.  The Kinucks came out a little stronger on their sticks in game 2.  Jorie E got things started from Eden M and Mercedes.  Eden then took a turn hitting the top of the net from Battler and Charlotte B.  Lara C put Kincardine up by 3 on a partial breakaway with the assist from Elliott.  The Predators got back in the game with a goal before Eden scored her second on a nice deflection on a perfect set up from Mercedes and Charlotte.  Eden took MVP honours for game 2.

The intensity picked up a notch in game 3 as Clearview and the Kinucks took turns putting on the pressure.  Despite Kincardine’s offensive zone edge, only one goal was scored by each team, with Mercedes scoring for the locals from Eden.  Jorie was the deserving MVP.  In semi-final action on Sunday against another Barrie team, Kincardine continued to press hard and generally dominated play.  Goalie Kasey B. continued to be rock solid as she was all through the tournament in the Kincardine net.  Barrie scored on a hard shot in the first.  The Kinucks buzzed around the offensive zone.  Elsie S.  and Gracie S.  played well positionally and helped create some good chances.  Kincardine finally tied the game late in the second on a nice high shot by Rachel on a great pass from Megan S.  An exciting and fast paced third period was scoreless.  This resulted in a 5 minute overtime which also went end to end with scoring chances for each team.  Ashley B. came close several times as she continued to dash up the ice on some nice rushes.  Defenders Darby W, Jenna G and Tara W helped Kasey close the door on the Barrie shooters.  This led to a shootout where the Barrie goalie completed her theft of the game from the more dominant Kincardine team.  But the classy Kinuck team consoled their hero Kasey and treated their opponent Barrie to a round of cookies.  Lara was the semi-final MVP.  The girls had a great weekend of hockey and social time, staying in Brampton and having a few dozen waterslide rides between games.  Thanks to the whole coaching staff for organizing the weekend.
