TIM-BR MART Bantams Silver Stick Champions
Article written by Ron Sayle

Game one had the TIM-BR MART Bantams matched up with the league rival Hanover Barons.  It was a slow start for the Kincardine, as Hanover jumped to a two nothing lead early in the first.  After a quick time out and a firm discussion from coach Catto the boys refocused and settled down to their patented physical style and fought back.  First star of the game Garrett Satosek lead the charge with his first hat trick of the season with singles going to Brady Collins and Mitch Dickson.  Keeping the Hanover  team at bay was Trevor Ammerman with a number of highlight real saves to allow the Kincardine comeback, final score 5-2 in favor of the home squad.

Game two was a tight checking affair against a feisty Ayr Flames team that was stoned time after time by the brilliant goaltending of Paul Boyadjian.  Kincardine, inspired by the tremendous goaltending effort were able to get goals from Dylan Sayle, Mitch Dickson, and the big shot of the game came from Thomas Elliot with a bullet from outside the blue line finding the back of the net.

Game three against Goodrich was a back and forth battle with both teams coming close only to be shut out by stellar goaltending at both ends of the rink. The gooseggs were finally broke when Mitch Dickson parked a onetimer from in front of the net off a beautiful feed from Cody Bowes and Michael Osadca. Paul Boyadjian kept the door closed for his second shutout in as many games allowing Kincardine to sneak out a 1-0 victory.

The three victories earned the TIM-BR MART Bantams first place in the round robin setting up the first playoff game against a powerful Tavistock team.  This game had the crowd on the edge of their seats throughout as both teams exchanged chances only to have both goalies make game saving stops at both ends.  The tension was finally released when Dylan Sayle found the puck in a mad scramble in front of the Tavistock net and was able to muscle it past a sprawling goaltender with the helper going to Michael Osadca.  Sayle notched his second of the game finding a loose puck at the edge of the net off a nifty pass from Cody Bowes.  Tavistock fought hard and was able to get within one but this would be as close as they would get as the defensive squad of Brady Collins, Michael Osadca, Nathan Fohkens and Mathew Baker were able to shut down the high flying Tavistock forwards with timely body checks and blocked shots, final score Kincardine 2 Tavistock 1.

This victory set the stage for the much anticipated Championship game matching the only two undefeated teams in the tournament, Listowell Cyclones and the host kincardine TIM-BR MART Bantams.  The full capacity crowd was entertained with a hard hitting game that saw zambonies breakdown at center ice, smashed glass from hard hits and game ending scrum that saw the penalty boxes filled to capacity.  It wasn’t until the second period that Mitch Dickson sent one top shelf from the top of the circle off a sweet backhand pass from the stick of Cody Bowes.  Jory Norman added to the one goal lead with a tap in from the goal mouth off a mad scramble with assists going to Garret Satosek and Mitch Dickson who battled hard to generate the loose puck.  Listowell fought back to within one on a pretty power play goal that had the Kincardine defenders out of gas and position.  Jory Norman playing with an injured back continued his heroic game with breakaway goal off the misplay by the Listowell defense.  With the clock running down and the crowd on their feet the Kincardine defenders were able to hold onto the 3-1 lead to gain the victory and the Tournament Championship.

The game and tournament MVP was awarded to a much deserving Paul Boyadjian who came up with game saving saves time after time during critical points in each game.  Boyadjian gave credit to his teammates during the post game interview commenting on the hard work by all the players especially Dallas Hewitt, Jacob Hunsburger and Dave McFarlan who made game saving checks and were able to support the defense who were missing Sam Gurbin and his calming presence on the blue line.  Congratulations to the coaching staff that managed and motivated the boys to a well deserved championship.  Next stop is the international tournament in Port Huron.
