Consolation Champs
After participating in the W.O.A.A. year end tournament in Goderich over the March 5-8th weekend, the Kincardine West Shore Bantam girls came home with the Maroon Division Consolation Championship trophy.  The girls’ most challenging game was their first of the tournament when they faced the Goderich Sailorettes on March 5th.  After three scoreless periods and two scoreless overtime periods, it came down to a shootout to determine a winner.  Player after player lined up to take their shots, when one finally found the back of the Kincardine net to give Goderich the 1-0 win.  This narrow loss put the West Shore girls into the Consolation side of the tournament.

Kincardine next defeated Markdale 3-1 on March 7.  Highlights of this game included Hayley Stewart’s lovely shorthanded goal early in the first period, call-up goalie Morgan Baker making a great penalty shot save, and seeing the Becca McLeod/Erica Gade point-to-point setup finally hit the target after many attempts.

West Shore’s next game saw them win 4-0 over the team from Beaver Valley on Sunday afternoon.  Goals were scored by Stewart (2), Kristen Derksen, and Jordan Murchie, with assists going to Morgan Padfield (2), Madison McFadden and Stewart.  With this victory the girls advanced to the Consolation Final match against Mildmay.   The Kincardine team confidently defeated their opponents, 3-0.  Morgan Padfield had a great game, leading the way with two goals and an assist.  Stewart contributed a goal and an assist and Murchie gained a point as well.  The defensive pairings of Erica Gade/Dani Watterworth and Emily Elphick/Kristy Parsons were instrumental in aiding netminder Kortney Watson to maintain the shutout and earn the Consolation Championship.
