Kincardine fights hard in Durham Tournament
Kincardine Cable TV Titans Leave Lasting Impression in Durham Novice Tournament.   The morning broke clear and calm (at least for a January morning in Grey/Bruce) as the Kincardine Cable TV Titans (aka. Novice LL2) team made their way to Durham for the Annual Durham Novice Local League Tournament.

Kincardine Cable TV Titans Leave Lasting Impression in Durham Novice Tournament

The Titans took to the ice at 9:00 AM to face the squad from Chatsworth.  Kincardine showed no signs of fatigue from the early morning journey as they pressed Chatsworth from the first face off.  Early in the 1st period Ariel Luinstra made a great stop at the Chatsworth blue line passing the puck to Liam Colhoun in the slot who made great move on a Chatsworth defender and made a great shot which found the twine on the right side of the net.

It seemed that the game might be a high scoring affair but this was not to be. A breakaway by Colton Green-Howatt and a thunderous shot by Zach Wall were both well handled by the Chatsworth netminder as Kincardine pressed for most of the first period.  More great chances and an end to end rush by Cara Colhoun were all stymied by excellent play of the Chatsworth goalie. Early in the 3rd period Chatsworth came back with a solid play and managed to squeeze the puck through the legs of Everett Luinstra who had been perfect between the pipes.  With game knotted up Kincardine pressed hard and again it was the great pass from Liam Colhoun to Cara Colhoun who slid the puck through the melee in front of the Chatsworth net to score with only 35 seconds left.  Kincardine held on to win and went on to face the hometown Durham team in the second round.

The second game began as the mirror to the first with Durham pressing hard in the Kincardine zone.  Everett Luinstra made a number of great saves to keep the game tied at nil going into the second period.  In the second the tide began to turn more in Kincardine’s favor.  Carson Stevenson made a strong rush through the Durham team only to be stopped by the Durham net minder.  Toward the end of the period Everett stood on his head stopping several dangerous Durham counter attacks.  The great back and forth play continued into the third period.  Halfway through the third period Liam Colhoun just missed on a great deak attempt.  One minute later Ariel Luinstra, the last defender back, stopped a Durham player who had evaded all the other defenders.  With only 2:43 left Cara Colhoun broke the deadlock with a goal from the slot.  A desperate Durham team fought hard and after several shots managed to whack the puck past Everett to tie the game with only 1:32 left on the clock.  The Titans were going to overtime.

The overtime period was hard fought by both sides.  Huge efforts were put in by Max Colley, Spencer Walton, Isaac Hall, Matthew Walton, Drae Parcey, and Rafael Colley.  Everyone on the team put in great effort. With one minute left Kincardine was given a penalty and with 30 seconds left  Durham over came their shorthanded opponent and scored to win the game.  Although the outcome was not in it’s favor the Kincardine Cable TV Titans could hold their heads high in defeat for the impressive effort and display of hockey skill made by the entire team.  Everett Luinstra was named the MVP of the game for his heroic back stopping in goal.  With the playoffs looming there is many reasons to be an optimistic Titans fan.
