The Kincardine peewee house league girls team earned a silver medal in the Feb 26/27th Haldimand Tournament. The girls sustained physical, mental and emotional effort throughout the rather numerous six close and grueling games.

Every game seemed to come down to the wire.Even a 4-0 win over Dunville required three of the goals in the third period.Friday began with a 3-2 victory over Haldimand #1.The girls prevented the tieing goal with the hosts pouring into Kincardine's end with the extra attacker.Later that evening, Waterloo and the locals traded several chances for three periods.Kincardine held the edge in play overall, but Waterloo tied it up with a power play goal.Saturday morning displayed commitment from the girls. They put on a forechecking clinic and textbook team defence in the win over Dunnville.A 2-0 win over Hamilton later that day assured Kincardine of first place in Pool A and two shutouts for Sophia Tomaini for the day.Sunday morning started with a semifinal against the second place team from Pool B.Kincardine beat the other host team Haldimand #2 in a close 2-1 battle. This set the stage for the girls sixth game of the weekend in the final against Guelph Tigers. For the first time all weekend, the opponents scored the first goal.Kincardine didn't give up and tied the game midway through the third, but Guelph was able to sneak one in the Kincardine net.Kincardine regained composure and threatened to score during the final minute, coming dangerously close, which made hearing the final buzzer an even greater disappointment.Going 4-1-1 and winning the silver out of 10 teams was a great accomplishment.Eden McFarlane was the second top scorer in the tournament with 5 goals and seven points.Kelsey Padfield and Jorie Elliott tied for forth at 5 points with Padfield scoring 3.Gracie Stewart wasn't far behind with 2 goals and 2 assists.Tara Wood,Darby Watterworth and Brooke Storey and Jorie Elliott put up a wall on defence.Elsie Shewfelt ,Makayla McGregor and Mackenzie Nashiem provided some thrilling chances, good passing and forechecking.Hayley Sorbara and Madisyn Johnston skated like the wind with Sorbara scoring the important tying goal in the final.Tomaini was as reliable and acrobatic as ever ,allowing only 6 goals in six games.
