Tussle with Teeswater - the Rematch

It was a crisp Sunday morning as the Kincardine Cable T.V. Novice team prepared to meet their well-matched rivals from Teeswater.  There was a nervous energy in the change room as the excitement started to build.  Our fearless goalie, Trent Courtney, was nicely warmed up as he had just finished the goalie clinic not minutes before the game started.  The ice glistened, unblemished, as the Zamboni finished up and our Novice squad skated onto the ice, ready and waiting.

The watching fans barely got a chance to yell any encouragement before Chloe Pagé picked the puck up not even a minute into the game, wrapped around the back of the net and found an opening at the side.  Score!!  The crowd went wild.  Not even a minute later, Spencer Walton fought the puck out from a pack of players and sent it home.  Another goal!  A few parents were treated for shock – up two goals in the first two minutes of the game!  This was a first for our team.

The rest of the first period passed quickly with Trent Courtney clearing away the few pucks that managed to sneak past our defence – of note were Drae Parcey, who stood firm in front of our net along with Marcelle Platt, who did a fine job keeping the puck in the offensive zone.  Ethan Petrie skated like he had a fire behind him.

Period Two saw our team attempting many shots on net.  Laura Fohkens had a good number of breakaways and shots on net.  Abby Swann brought the puck back from our defensive zone, passed it to Laura Fohkens who weaved her way towards the net, but was stopped by an untimely whistle! Later, Georgia Tanner fought for the puck and almost delivered but was stopped by the buzzer.

The third period saw our LL2 team unwavering in their energy and determination.  The defence did an amazing job of keeping the puck in the offensive zone.  With six minutes remaining in the game, Drae Parcey fought for the puck and it was picked up by Kevin Coady who then tried to send it home – it was covered by the Teeswater netminder.  At two minutes remaining, Teeswater pulled their goalie.  The fans were sitting on the edge of their seats as Teeswater made a valiant last attempt at a goal but was stopped cold by Trent Courtney.  The buzzer sounded; victory!  The Kincardine Cable TV Novice team played an excellent well rounded game of hockey and we are proud of you!
