Miller Midgets Calm the Storm
Article by Ron Sayle

With the sick bay empty with the exception of shut down specialist Garret Satosec the Miller Insurance Midgets had a full squad to face the arch rivals, Saugeen Storm from Port Elgin.

The First period was uneventful as both teams were playing a disciplined hard working game that resulted in gooseggs at the end of the first frame.

The Storm opened the scoring in the second on a pretty power play goal that found the Storm player home alone on the back doorstep. The lead was short lived as Dylan Sayle caused a turnover and walked in to blast a hard snapper top shelf on the frozen Storm puck stopper to even the score. Kincardine took the lead when Dallas Hewitt snapped home a wrister off the faceoff cleanly won by Cody Bowes. Kincardine extended the lead when Chris Beattie banged home a rebound after some cycling deep in the Port Elgin end by Jory Norman and Paul Lamont who picked up the assists. Port responded with a pretty goal off the rush leaving the score 3 -2 in favor of Kincardine at the end of 2

The third period was a tight checking affair with Michael Osadca , Sam Gurbin , Dallas Perkin, Brad Mangotich and Matt Baker  maintaining  the wall on the Kincardine blue line and Easton Battler making big saves when called upon. Kincardine had ample scoring chances as Phil Bernath, and Jacob Sierkierski buzzed the net on several occasions only to be denied by the Storm net minder. Collins and Dickson patrolled the outer perimeters of the pad providing continuous support to their respective lines. Dylan Sayle notched the final goal of the game with cannon from the slot with assists going the Perkins and Gurbin.

Final score Kincardine 4 Port Elgin 2 with the rematch set for January 13th  in Port Elgin.
