The Kincardine Montgomery Ford Bantam Girls LL headed south to
participate in the Stratford tournament this
past weekend to prove their mettle against teams from across Southwest
Ontario.
The girls first squared of against Oakville. The play was intense with both teams stymied by stellar goal tending and an uncooperative piece of vulcanized rubber until Oakville’s Denis Bridges finally cracked through the defence to whistle one past Kincardine’s net minder Amber Howald with 7:43 remaining in the second. Kincardine found the net thirty seconds later when Tegan Moore converted a pass from Nicole McLeod and Megan Stewart-Kemp. Six minutes later Rachel Whitney drove what was to be the game winner home with help from her line mates Megan Stewart-Kemp and and Tegan Moore. The flood gates opened at 12:44 of the third period as Kincardine went on to score three goals in less than a minute of play. They would add a fourth to close out the scoring 6-1.
After an afternoon off the girls took to the ice to challenge the Waterloo Ravens. Kincardine and Waterloo played what was to be a fast paced and low scoring game. Waterloo got on the board first with a goal from Sarah Casciato. The play was dominated by the spectacular net minding of Waterloo’s Kayla Harold who was to blank Kincardine’s strikers until the dying moments of the second period when Megan Stewart-Kemp deflected a blistering shot from Nicole McCleod. The score was to remain 1-1 until there was a 1:37 remaining of the clock when Eden McFarlane (assisted by Rachel Whitney) grinded one past Harold to set up the 2-1 victory.
