Spirits Stay High Despite Defeat
The atmosphere in the Davidson Centre was heavily-charged as the Scotia Bank Kincardine Komets met up with their friends Novice House League #4 today on the ice. Both sides played a great game of hockey but the Komets left the ice defeated with a loss of 5-1.

The pace of the opening minute of the game was frenetic as LL4 took control of the puck and scored their first goal in the first 30 seconds of the game. Caydence Gibson got a hold of the puck and broke away from the pack, skating hard towards the net but was denied by the goalie. Mitchell Pyke passed to Joanne Page who had a shot on net. The puck found its way in our defensive zone and the fans gripped the edge of their seats as they watched the puck slowly slide just under Nathan Williams’ pads. The score now stood at 2-0 for LL4. Williams then wowed everyone with save after save before Noah Swann of LL4 grabbed the puck and lifted it, hitting the top of the crossbar for yet another goal. The first period ended with a score of 3-0 for LL4. The Komets were not to be deterred and played with teamwork and energy.

Period two saw great shots on both sides. The highlight of the game came when Noah Swann again lifted the puck to score but Komets goalie, Nathan Williams, simply held out his glove and caught the puck clean in his hand. The fans went wild. What a play! More great teamwork and passing saw Jacob Sylvester with a nice shot on net. The Komets were certainly getting some great chances but were not yet able to deliver. Then, in a breakaway, Reilly Colhoun skated the puck down and passed it to Bailey Pierson who had a great shot on net but to no avail.

Still not discouraged, the Komets came back on the ice in the third period to gain control of the puck. Joanne Page hit the puck to Reilly Colhoun who hit that puck right into the twine. The Komets scored! Congratulations to Reilly for her first goal of the season! Mitchell Pyke had a couple of good shots on net with Gordie Reaume also putting the pressure on but the puck was covered by LL4 goalie, Marcelle Platt. Noah McArthur proved himself a great defenseman by keeping the puck in our offensive zone. Deep in the third period, Noah Swann lifted the puck up and over Komets goalie, Nathan Williams, to bring the score up to 5-1 for LL4. The humorous highlight of the game goes to Jacob Sylvester after he skated the puck down and had a shot on net. It was deflected by Marcelle Platt. Unfortunately, Jacob was so focused on the puck that he tripped right over Marcelle and ended up in the net! Jacob, it doesn’t count unless the puck goes in, too! Cale Gibson showed his top-drawer skating skills with several breakaways during the game. The final buzzer sounded with a score of 5-1 for LL4. The Komets displayed excellent teamwork and positive attitude which made for a great game of hockey.
