Atom LL 2 wins, shutout earned by Courtney
After 3 straight losses, Atom LL 2 was finally able to pull out a win on Feb. 15th against Lucknow. A shutout was earned for goalie Trent Courtney. The first period Courtney had to make many saves as for 8 1/2 out of 10 minutes the opponents were in the Kinucks end. With a score of 0 to 0, coach Gibson talked to the kids after the first, and it seemed to work.
Kincardine put the pressure on Lucknow and ended up scoring in the second period by Trent Pletch, assisted by Robert McGregor. Lucknow did not want to give up though as defense Tomas Nancekivell, Cale Gibson, Jackson Alers and Michael Primeau made several saves themselves to help Courtney. In the third period Kincardine had another beautiful goal with a pass from Aaron Reid to McGregor, who had a nice hard shot but was saved by the goalie and Pletch got his second of the night with the rebound. Libby Fletcher, Joanne Page, Daniella McKitterick, Paige McLelland, Jacob Sylvester, Andrew MacDonald also deserve mention as they played hard in the second and third period. With a minute to go in the third period , Lucknow pulled their goalie and Courtney took a penalty trying to get one of their players out of his way. With 6 against 4 on the ice Kincardine managed to hold off any score from their opponents, leaving the game 2 to 0. The Atoms are looking forward to their tournament in Southampton this weekend.
