Black Attack takes tight tilt
KINCARDINE — The Black Attack kept its good play rolling with a 5-3 victory over the blue squad Saturday afternoon in novice houseleague action at the Davidson Centre.

The game was closer than the score indicated and its outcome remained in question until Casey Beisel tapped in an insurance marker with just eight seconds remaining in the third period.

Cadence Gibson was a constant threat for the blue squad, scoring all three of its goals. Gibson's speed was a factor as two of her markers came off steals and the third as she was hit with a well-timed pass as she broke through the neutral zone.

Alex Colley kept his blue squad in the game, making several great saves, including one play in which the Attack had several chances down low.

Black got off to a slow start but Thales Hunter got his team on the scoreboard early in the second period, lifting the puck over Colley to make it 1-1.

After Gibson put her team in the lead again, Daniil Melnikov walked out of the corner and fired home a low shot to knot the game at 2-2. Nathan Arnold put Black ahead for good and Melnikov tapped home a rebound to make it 4-2.

Tony Chen, Spencer Humble and Hunter had assists for the Attack, while Thomas Ostrowski played well in his first game in goal for black this season.

The game ended with frenetic action as blue looked to tie the game with a minute to play, but the Attack was able to stifle the attempts and hang on for victory.
