Kincardine PeeWee Rep Boys Win Two on the Weekend.
Colley is no one trick pony!
Late Saturday afternoon the Kincardine Br. 183 Legion PeeWee team traveled to face off against the Goderich Sailors in WOAA action. Kincardine dominated the first two periods showing off some strong systems play implemented by Coach Bishop the previous practice. With strong work along the boards, crisp short passes and strong goal tending by Everett Luinstra the Peewees led 6-0 after two frames.
Goderich started the third strong and scored twice on the
less motivated Kincardine team. With a 1:56 left on the clock, Jake Colley
scored his third goal of the game to the delight of fans including the
exuberant Jim Berkman who tossed his much deserving hat to the ice. Other goal scorers in the game were Chris
Coady with two, Matt “the Riddler” Harrison, and Darian Kuz with one. Assists
went to Tanner Reid (2), Brennan Long, Kendan Zettle, Travis Anderson, Connor
Berkman, Bryce McFadden, Colley, Coady, and Kuz.
On Sunday, the Bulldogs of Blythe accepted the Kinucks
challenge in exhibition play. Colley strolled into the arena wearing the Player
of the Game hat and quickly continued his strong play scoring on the opening
shift. Again, with strong work down low and crisp passes McFadden sent the puck
into the corner where Zettle would make one more pass to Colley. The Bulldogs
are a strong team and had several good scoring chances, but Jamie Brock was the
difference during the first period and the Kinucks led 1-0 after one period of play.
Into the second period, McFadden’s strong play continued as
he picked up the puck at centre skated around two Bulldogs and fired a wrist
shot past the Blythe goaltender. 2-0 Kincardine. McFadden would get his third
point of the game pushing the puck into the corner where Jacob Bishop picked up
the pass, dangled past the Bulldog defense and stuck the puck top corner on the
short side. Momentum was now clearly on the side of the Kinucks and after a
scramble in front of the net Colley scored his second of the game with Long
assisting. The Bulldogs frustration led to many power-plays for the Kinucks and
the Kinucks took advantage. Carson
Stevenson made the D to D pass to Edwin Byle who fired a low shot towards
Colley at the side of the net. Colley tipped the shot in for his second hat
trick in two days! The Kinucks led 5-0 after two periods.
Blythe scored to open the third period, but with Brock
between the pipes and the Kinucks defense of Berkman, Stevenson, Byle and
Austin MacArthur the Bulldogs wouldn’t score again. The Kinucks defense proved
pivotal as the set up another goal in front the net, this time with Coady from
Berkman and Byle.
Player of the Game was Tanner Reid. Reid makes the players
around him better as he always looks for the open player and creates turnovers
with aggressive forechecking.
The Kincardine Br. 183 Legion Peewees would like to say
“thank you for our freedom” to all our Veterans during this week of remembrance
and especially on Remembrance Day.
