Submitted by Debbie Goulding On December 16, the Markdale Shooting Stars came to the Davidson Centre for a very anticipated meeting with the Kincardine Montgomery Ford Midgets girls. This was a game not to be missed! From the opening buzzer to the final bell - it was exciting fast-paced hockey. It was one of the hardest games the Ford girls have had to play this season. With a previous loss to Kincardine, Markdale was here to settle the score. In the first period, Kincardine racked up some penalty minutes including one hit from behind resulting in Dakota Smith being ejected from the game and it seems she'll be missing our next game also for this penalty. The second period saw both teams enjoying the view from the penalty box.
I don't know what the bench said to the girls between the second and third, but Kincardine came out on fire. The passing and team work was amazing in this period and it paid off. Megan Stewart Kemp got the pass off to Malorie Woods who was the first to find the back of Meaford's net. Only a couple of minutes later, Malorie Woods got the puck to Rachel Whitney who slammed one in (I think a nice payback for the slash she had just taken) and a minute later, Tegan Moore had a beautiful pass to Mercedes Battler who rallied to Elsie Shewfelt who netted the third goal of the game.
Goalie Breanna Goulding had some amazing saves in net, even having some tough action on her with her stick behind the net and was still able to stop everything thrown at her. This earned Goulding her fifth shut out of the season!
Congratulations girls, that was a well earned win!
Our next game is Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 9:30 p.m. in Brussells. The girls currently now have risen into 1st place in the leage at this time, hoping to maintain this after the holidays !
After the game the team went back to the Battlers residence for the Secret Santa party for players & parents and to enjoy pizza & wings from the team sponsor Montgomery Ford and to enjoy some Christmas spirit and a small gift exchange with a few laughs to have a nice holiday warmup for Xmas season ! Was alot of fun & the team sends out seasons greetings to all and to all a good night ! G.K.
