Season so far....
So far, so good. That is how the season for the Enbridge Midget Local League team has been going. We have a talented group of players who have risen to the challenge and sport a great record of 4-1.
Our first game was an exhibition against the other LL team based here in Kincardine . It was a spirited affair with defenseman turned forward Jamie Bate scoring a natural hat trick. Goalie duties were shared by Brad Liddle and Matt Strader, backed up with some fine defensive play by Ryan Swift, Cory Fair, Jared Allingham and Brendan Murchie. Final score was 3-1.
The next game was our first of the regular season versus
Howick. The boys came to play, and easily handled the smaller Howick team. Scoring was spead out over the 3 periods with Swifty netting the hat trick, Aidan Calcutt and Bate each potting 2 and Brent Mcdonald adding a single. Strader handled the goal-tending duties. Helping the goal scorers were Kaleb Brough, Brendan McCartney, Owen and Jacob Hunsburger. Final score was 8-1
Next up was a road trip to
Listowel where it didn’t go as well as planned. Through 2 periods the boys kept up with a physically larger team, with Corey Howse, Logan Wolfe and the other forwards providing great back-checking to help out the defensive core. The defence was bolstered by the return of Sam Netzke to the fold. Alas, the home team went out in the third on fire and scored 4 unanswered goals to give our team its first loss. Final score was 4-8.
Back in the friendly confines of the Davidson Centre, we met up with the other Kincardine team again, and again, our team came out on top in a very equally matched game. Scoring was spread out among several players. Final score was 3-1
Listowel came to visit on Nov 4. The boys were pumped for this as they felt they didn’t give their all in Listowel in that loss. The boys hit early and hit hard. I’m sure that the visitors were not expecting this and were unable to mount effective rushes against the great back-checking and defensive play. Liddle was outstanding in net and the final score of 6-2 was well deserved. It was the best game that our team has played this season so far. Coach Dean Netzke was pleased!!
Here’s to hoping that the rest of the season is as good as the beginning.
