A showcase of skills starts year-end tournament
The Black Attack started round robin tournament play against home-team the Blue Friday evening at 6 pm at the Tiverton Arena. The Black played a fast, solid first period with Aaron Urie playing goal. Black met the Blue lining up with No. 8 Malcolm Lane, No. 15 Thomas Harmsworth, No. 2 Koby Palmeron the forward line with No. 6 Sophie Nancekivell and No. 11 Ela Jones on defence. Lane took a hard shot on Blue’s No. 1 with seconds of the game opening. Some hard action on the boards saw Blue No. 5 downed but he was up on and on his feet headed for the bench then returned to play within minutes.

Black’s Harmsworth took strong defensive action to stop Blue’s fastest forward No. 8 who got on a breakaway and shot on Black’s goal. Harmsworth answered by roaring back down to Blue flanked by No. 14 Ethan Gouthro and No. 3 Deven Gouthro. No. 14 stood ready in the net. Harmsworth gave the assist to No. 14 Gouthro who shot and scored his first goal. Blue came back roaring but only to be met by Black’s No. 6 Nancekivell, Blue returned to get a goal of their own at 5:34. Blue drove again up centre line but was then met again resoundingly by Black’s No. 5 Dylan Garneau and No. 9 Jude Hodgins. Blue’s No. 8 returned again and chipped one in over the shoulder to find the back of the net. But Black showed their strong team spirit when No. 6 Nancekivell gave Black’s No. 1 a pat to bolster his spirit. Black’s Urie flanked by Black’s hard-working and fast defence to respond to the pressure from Blue No. 8. No. 11 Jones and No. 10 Elwood put Blue’s goalie to his own test firing hard on net. No. 12 Bella Lane fought it out in the corners, while No. 7 Addyson Richards displayed her hockey skills. Garneau got his stick to the puck moving it expertly up the ice. The pressure on Blue payed off with No. 10 Elwood getting a goal. No. 8 Blue was turned to a penalty box to sit for 2:00. Black’s No.1 made some tuff stops catching a shot on net in his glove. An excellent effort by both teams with final score going to the Blue win.
