Bantam Girls Are #1 in Ontario!!!
On Sunday April 13th the Lakeside Chevrolet Bantam Girls went undefeated to earn a gold medal at the OWHA Championship tournament. In round robin play the girls tied 1-1 with Bayfield-Clinton-Hensall (BCH), beat Bancroft 5-0 and tied Timmins 1-1 to finish first in their group.

In the quarter finals the girls went up against Waterloo on Saturday night.
Kincardine scored first on a goal by Rainor Kuz but Waterloo tied it up in the second. When Georgia
Fields scored, Kincardine regained the lead early in the third. Then, reminiscent of the Silver Stick
tournament, the girls gave up the lead in the final minutes of the game. Again, like Silver Stick,
Kincardine squeezed out the win in double overtime, thanks to Lily Freiburger's timely goal.

In semi final action the girls came out slowly, falling behind to Ilderton early in the first. Hailey Woods
tied it up to end the first period. Kincardine once again fell behind making for a lot of nervous coaches
and parents. Woods scored again, while Kincardine was short handed to even it up. Alice Thorpe
then got the go-ahead goal in the third. With two and a half minutes left in the game Ilderton pulled
their goalie but Freiburger potted the empty netter to put the game away. That setup the Final against
our WOAA Champions, Tara-Chatsworth-Desboro Minor Hockey Association (TCDMHA).

Kincardine came out slowly again and were hemmed in their own end for the first few minutes of the game.
Madision McBride got things rolling for Kincardine before the end of the first. Freibuger got the second goal
as the momentum really started to shift. Freiburger netted her second goal of the game to put Kincardine up
3-0. TCDMHA got a goal back early in the third and started to pour it on but Kincardine stood their ground
even when TCDMHA pulled their goalie. With seconds left in the game Lily Freiburger completed her hat trick
to clinch the gold medal.

Final score 4-1 Kincardine's new Provincial Champions!
