Montgomery Ford Midget girls @ Silver stick
Montgomery Ford Midget “C” girls team compete this past weekend in Southampton and Paisley Saugeen Shores Girls Silver Stick -Caitlyn Cobean Memorial Tournament   The tournament had various age groups in Atom thru to Midgets girls teams. With 12 Midget “C” teams divided into 2 groups of six for a 3 game round robin type play with only 2 winners from each group advancing to semi finals Sunday. Well winning at least 2 of the 3 minimum would be the only way to get there and  the 17 ladies from Kincardine that competed tried their very best, just came up short in a few areas and some uncontrollable events that can change the outcome of any game !

023.jpgFriday night was a little dusty and snowy to travel for any team, almost wondered if may cancel. Our 1st game was vs Markdale @ 7:45 in Southampton. Both teams came out to test one another in the 1st period, which seemed to stay the same all game. Kincardine defeated Markdale 3-1 for a good start in the Silver Stick. On Saturday having 2 games to fit in, @ 4:45 vs Tiverton Thunder in Southampton . Funny how we can go to different tournaments in Ontario and meet our neighbor town for a game ?? Well we knew the girls would have  good game with each other as they all god to the same school and friends with each other. It seemed to be a great game, was 1-1 for most of the game and both teams had their chances! Sometimes a bad call or whistle early on a rebound happens, but when your team scores and fans see the puck in the net and officials miss that? This game should have ended a tie 1-1, there was a 24” offside missed against Tiverton, we tried to make the ref’s aware of this, then to late as a goal was scored costing Kincardine a 2-1 in the 3rd period with 3 minutes left . Then Sat night up to Paisley to challenge Blyth/Brussels which we knew we would have to win to advance and Blyth are a good team, undefeated in league play, they don’t need to become dirty with body and then get rewarded with a penalty for a body check in the boards and pat on the back from coaching staff! Kincardine seemed somehow to not have in our opinion fair officiating this tournament for 2 of the 3 games,  example would be our player getting crossed checked in their crease trying to put a rebound in and we get 2 minutes for goal tender interference ?? Another good one after Blyth had a 3 goal lead, 10 minutes left in the 3rd we scored clearly in open left side of the net, this would have been 3-1 , yet the goal somehow called off because, my player was in the crease before the puck or something like that which wasn’t true. Even when the game was over and shaking hands, the Blyth goal keeper even said to my face, that our player was not in the crease and the same comment came from their coaches also?? Hard to pick yourself up when things like that happen in games for a team trying their best and playing as sportsman like as they can . Truth be known I feel it’s a stress test for coaches with out blowing a gasket! The rest of the game was good battle and the score remained 3-0 for Blyth putting us out of Silver stick
