WOAA final round of hockey for Montgomery Ford Midgets
The Montgomery Ford Midget “C” girls hockey team finished their season completely this past weekend out in Ripley attending the Midget WOAA year end tournament. The team starting the season with 16 skaters and 1 goalie 2nd year bantam age , 6 total in coaching staff back in October, finishing the season with 13 skaters,1 goalie, 5 on coaching staff. Early Feb.  Eden Mcfarlane & Tara Wood left on student exchange, Gracie Stewart suffered a severe concussion in provincial playdowns back in mid Feb. The 1 less coach staff was Dallas Hewitt ( practice drill assist)  injured his knee late Nov in baseball.

Since the Gretzke tournament in Brantford the Montgomery Midgets buckled down in playdowns to try for provincials. The team did amazingly well with the shorter bench, there was 8 games to play over 3 weeks for provincal’s  to have completed by Mar 10th, the team won 6 of the 8 games, every game meaning the difference of making it or not ? The team ended the series having same win/loss record as Saugeen shores after all games played , the deciding tie breaker came down to best goals for and against , which Saugeens was a better ratio. This only left our team left to complete 2 re-scheduled league games vs Lucknow on the Tues night which was a 3-1 win for Kincardine and another game Thur. night before the year end WOAA with Tiverton to finish our year end season with Kincardine winning 4-1. On the weekend WOAA Midget girls were broke into 3 groups categories , Elite, Inter, H/L , depending on your stats thru regular season and with Kincardine finishing 2nd place , this stat placed us in the top group of 6 teams out of 18 teams in WOAA girls hockey. Our 1st game vs Markdale Shooting stars “B” team in Ripley was over in short order, we were out-matched with a 7-0 loss. Our 2nd game as much as we tried our best vs Georgian shores “C”  and needed this win to advance , our team lost 4-0. Again we were out matched and these teams are very even in ability. Markdale have 2 teams from their town. Both of these teams will do well in the provincials up coming. Our Season was a lot of fun and good memories , the girls played all season with heart and passion doing their best ! Having some close games, winning 2 silver medals, tied the final game in provincial playdown’s , finished 2nd over all from 18 regular season games, playing a 50 game season  in total with 25 wins, 21 lost, 4 ties , scoring 112 goals. The coaching staff are proud of the team and are a good group of girls to coach. Want to thank the parents for all their support this year. The team is now getting ready for a round of golf id the snow ever leave’s !!!!
