The Kincardine Home Hardware Novice Rep team took to the ice this past weekend to take part in the Regional Silver Stick Tournament.

On Dec 27 the Kinucks started off the tournament against the Walkerton Capitals. Both Teams came out showing that they wanted the win. The Capitals had a couple of good chances but were held off by the Kinucks outstanding defense. Late in the first Quinton Page broke in and scored the first marker for the Kinucks. In the second period the Kinucks struck again with a goal by Nathan Arnold on a one timer from a pass by Quinton Page. The Kinucks went on to win 2-1.

Later that afternoon the Kinucks went on to face the Mitchell Meteors,  adding to the building rivalry between these two teams. The Home Hardware Kinucks came out strong and gave it their all. Half way through the first Quinton Page scored on a pass from Nathan Arnold, in the second there was two more markers coming from Quinton Page on an assist from Jared Houghton and one goal from Brandon Bishop unassisted. The third saw Quinton Page score once more with an assist from Jorja Scott to give the Kinucks the decisive win 4-2.

The Kinucks had Saturday to recover and get ready for the final game of the round robin. Sunday morning the team came out strong and rested to take on the Ayr Flames. Early in the first Quinton Page scored his first of the game with an assist from Brandon Bishop and Dayle Chinnick, later in the same period Quinton page scored his second goal of the game, unassisted. The second period saw Quinton Page score his third of the game for the hat trick on a pass from Graeden Colhoun and Nolan Janes. With Ayr mounting a comeback the Kinucks came out in the third ready to win. Nolan Janes scored his first of the season on a pass from Quinton Page and Graeden Coulhoun. The Kinucks held off the Ayr attacks with some excellent defensive work and great goal tending to win the game 4-2 and place them in first place for the round robin, and into the semi finals against Twin Centers.

On Sunday evening the team came out strong. After tying Twin Centers in other tournament play this year, the Kinucks knew that it would not be an easy win. Twin Centers came out strong and scored an early goal. This however only proved to wake the Kinucks up and get them playing. Casey Beisel struck first scoring her first of the season with an assist from Graeden Colhoun. In the second period Tyler Johns scored a beauty on a pass from Quinton Page that gave the Kinucks the deciding lead. Brandon Bishop smashed one home on a scrum around the net, and Casey Beisel struck again with assists from Graeden Coulhoun and Jesse Page. to round out the second period Quinton Page scored on an assist from Casey Beisel and Jesse page. The third period was all about defense, and holding Twin Centers to one goal for the Kinucks 5-1 Win, putting them into the Championship game on Monday morning.

On Monday morning the Kinucks came out ready to take on the mighty BCH Ice Dogs who were also unbeaten in the tournament. The game was a real nail biter, with the stands full, the crowd loud and a back and fourth game. Through three periods there were a number of close calls at both nets, but no goals. Rowen Cherrett stood on his head and played an outstanding game to keep the puck out of the net.
The first OT period was fruitless and the score remained 0-0. It wasn't until the second OT period with the teams playing 4 on 4 that a goal was scored. Quinton page took a pass in front of the net an made no mistake about putting it in the back of the net. The crowd went wild as the Kinucks celebrated the win on the ice. Winning the regional silver stick will give the Kinucks the chance to show their skills at an international level in Michigan later this month.
