Green Hornets Sting Kincardine Blues
There were a lot of anxious faces around the Davison Centre this morning, when the undefeated Kincardine Blue team took to the ice against the Kincardine Green Hornets, who were yet to claim a win this season.

The Green Hornets would be without Head Coach Bob Richards, as well as 'stay at home' defenseman Bruce Aranja. Already, the odds were stacking up against this young team.

However, the Green Hornets had been practicing hard to improve their work ethic, back checking and fore checking. It was a big ask, but could they turn things around against an undefeated Team #3 and send them home with the blues?

The Green Hornets set up with a trio of solid defensemen on the bench. Aaron Urie, Carter Drake and Kaylib Graveley would have their work cut out to thwart the offensive skills of the Blue Team. The game faced off and it was a frantic pace from the very first minute. Interim Head Coach Brent Urie, sent out a formidable checking line to set the tone for this one. Speedy wingers Mitchell Desmond and Addyson Richards would provide excellent support to the hard working power forward, Zak Fletcher, playing at Centre.

Great effort was demonstrated by both teams, but the first period would end scoreless.

With five minutes gone in the second period, the Blues would feel the Hornets sting! The talented forward line of Rachel Rumbold, Ty Ferguson and Abby Boulton would take to the ice. The Hornets were swarming around the oppositions net, only for the puck to drop to the prolific Abby Boulton. That's the last thing that the Blue Team needed, as Boulton rifled a shot into the back of the net. It was 1-0 to the Green Hornets!

The game would ebb and flow as both teams pushed to create more chances. The Hornets solid defence was finally broken when the impressive Rachel Catelo tied things up at 1-1.

Undeterred the Green Hornets would fly into the third period. Harley Trudeau in the Hornets net was outstanding throughout, as he pulled off save after save. Watching Trudeau's heroics in net was reminiscent of the Atom Rep goalie, Ryan Tanner, who had shut out Goderich the night before. With performances like this, like Tanner, maybe Trudeau will also earn the nickname 'The Berlin Wall!'

With only four minutes remaining on the clock Carter Drake saw his opportunity to rush from defence. He weaved in and out like Bobby Orr, before he fired a shot into the bottom corner making it 2-1 for the Hornets!

This game was a thriller as the Kincardine Blues would fight back, looking for an equalizer. Another goal would have to be something special, as Trudeau remained solid in the Green Hornets net. Bodies were flying everywhere as the Hornets clung onto their slim lead. Things looked even worse when the Hornets tough guy Aaron Urie got two minutes in the penalty box. In fairness, Urie was fully focused on the puck as he tried to clear, but it resulted in a crushing open ice hit for the incoming Blues forward.

Coach Brent Urie would rotate his checking line of Mitchell Desmond, Addyson Richards and Zak Fletcher, who would help the Green Hornets hang on and claim their first victory of the season!

An awesome effort by all! Credit to both teams, but well done Kincardine Green Hornets. Feel the sting!
