A “Sweet” Win for The Kincardine Sobeys Peewee Girls B Rep Team
On Sunday February 8th, after a rest from the ice, the Kincardine Sobeys Peewee girls rep team travelled to North York for their first playoff game of the season against the North York Storm.

The first period saw end to end action but it wasn’t until the second period with 1:30 remaining on the clock that Kincardine’s Jessica Anderson tipped one in the net assisted by teammates, Georgia Tanner and Maddy Gallant. This gave the Kinucks a 1-0 lead over the Storm.

The Third period was much the same, with lots of shots on the North York net.  With  5:21 left on the clock, Kinucks Aysha Machan shot one past the keeper off the face off unassisted to give the Kinucks a 2-0 lead over North York Storm.  With great passing and team involvement, the Kincardine Sobeys Peewee girls rep team pulled off a win and a great beginning to the first of the best of three game series.

Game two was on Saturday February 14
th.  Originally scheduled to be played in Tiverton, and due to the bad weather, the venue was changed to Kincardine Arena to accommodate the North York team since they were en route via bus and already in Walkerton.

At 11:00 am, the puck dropped and the game began...the girls were pumped and ready to play!

With 9:17 remaining in the first period, Kincardine’s Lauren O’Hagan, assisted by Heidi Allen and Maddy Gallant, banged one home to give the Kincardine Kinucks a 1-0 lead.  A minute later with 8:48 remaining defencewoman, Emma Dixon, used her forces, assisted by Georgia Tanner to give the Kinucks another point on the board.  This called for a switch in net for the North York Storm.

The Kinucks were just warming up in the first period.  The second period saw some coast to coast action but it wasn’t until 3:53 was remaining in the second that Georgia Tanner was able to rattle the twine, assisted from Jessica Anderson to make it 3-0.  Then from a precision pass from Lauren O’Hagan to Kincardine’s Claire Hunsburger, with 1:51 remaining in the second, Hunsburger with a sweet one timer blew one past North York's goaltender to make the score 4-0.

Into the third period and right off the draw, with 9:18 on the clock, Kincardine’s Aysha Machan, assisted by Georgia Tanner, added to the points on the board to make it 5-0.  A time out was called with 3:37 remaining to regroup and discuss the strategy for the remainder of the game.  Then with 3:18 on the clock, Lauren O’Hagan made it 6-0 for the Kinucks with an unassisted wrap around.  With time running down, and 1:56 remaining, Kincardine’s Heidi Allen, off another precision pass by Jessica Anderson, backhanded the rubber into the twine, leading to a 7-0 victory for the Kincardine Sobeys Peewee Girls B rep team and a win of the first series of playoffs.  The girls will be playing Vaughan in round two of the playoff series, game times still to be determined.
