Kincardine Sobey’s Peewee Girls Rep “B” Team Silver Medalists At Lower Lakes Female Hockey League Championship Weekend
On Saturday March 28th, the Kincardine Sobey’s Peewee Girls Rep “B” team travelled to Oshawa to participate in the Lower Lakes Female Hockey League Championship weekend. With only 8 skaters, the Kinucks were going to be challenged as their first game was against the Sarnia Lady Sting, whose bench consisted of 17 skaters.

The first and second periods saw lots of action, but the Kinucks managed to hold off the Lady Sting.  Then in the third period, with 7:27 left on the clock, Kincardine’s Aysha Machan, off a stellar set up from teammates Lauren O’Hagan and Heidi Allen, shook the Lady Stings twine and caused a large buzz in the hive to give the Kinucks a 1-0 lead and an eventual victory for their team.

Game 2 saw equal action between the short benched Kinucks and Haldimand River Cats.  Both teams worked hard but were unable to produce any points.  Another shut out earned for goalie Marcelle Platt.

On Sunday, bright and early, the Kinucks, still short benched, met up with the Orillia Hawks for game 3.  With 3:28 left in the first period, Kincardine’s Georgia Tanner, assisted by Lauren O’Hagan and Lauren Thede, started the scoring to give the Kinucks a 1-0 lead.  The second period remained tight with end to end action.  Into the third period with 6:19 left on the clock, Kincardine’s Heidi Allen, off a precision pass from teammate Aysha Machan, sent the puck home to give the Kinucks a 2-0 victory.  The girls then moved onto the finals at noon for a rematch for gold against the Sarnia Lady Sting.

Game 4 and the final game proved to be a tough one for the Kincardine Sobey’s Peewee Girls Rep “B” team, who were still playing short benched with 8 skaters.  The girls were running out of gas as the Sarnia Lady Sting still had a buzzing bench of 17 players.  Unfortunately, the Lady Sting came out strong and were able to get 2 goals past Kinucks goaltender Marcelle Platt to earn a 2-0 win and the gold medal.

Congratulations to the great 8 that skated hard and with heart to earn the Silver Medal!
