Fantastic Start to the Season
On October 18th the Areva Bantam Girls LL hit the ice for their first challenge of the season in an exhibition game against Saugeen Shores at the 2nd Annual "Showdown in the Shores"!
It was an exciting game watching our girls work well with one another, passing the puck around and setting up shot after shot. The game was scoreless until the 2nd period when both Alexis Whitworth-Bjerg and Libby Fletcher scored goals, assisted by Brittany Norman and Slayde Miller. However, Saugeen Shores wanted to show us what they were made of and answered back with 2 goals in the 3rd period, ending the game in a respectable 2-2 tie.
Our second game was on home ice advantage October 23rd, once again against Saugeen Shores. This time there was a bit of a twist to the game, our goalie Faith Catalan ventured over to the other side to assist Saugeen Shores and got hammered with a whopping 46 shots on net by our girls. We had 1st year PeeWee goaltender Vana Palominos play in net for us and held her own against ladies 2-3 years older then her! In this game Brittany Norman took the lead with the first goal, assisted by Dana Craig in period 1. Saugeen Shores used the 2nd period as a chance to tie the game up 1-1, but our girls were determined not to have a repeat of the last game tie and came back in the 3rd period with 4 more goals! 2 made by Slayde Miller, 1 from Avery Perrier and 1 from Kaeleigh Heydon. Assists going to Alexis Whitworth-Bjerg, Avery Perrier, Libby Fletcher and Abby Swann! Final score was a 5-1 win for Kincardine's Areva Bantam Girls LL! Well played ladies!
The Areva Bantam Girls traveled to Walkerton on Sunday, October 26th, looking forward to facing new opponents. Once again our girls dominated in shots, outshooting Walkerton 37 to 7. Job well done by our defensive team Dana Craig, Becky Cuillerier, Julia McGregor and Abby Swann who rush back, protect our goalie and limited the chance for our opponents to get any shots off! Congratulations to Ariel Luinstra who pulled off a hat trick and got an assist this game! Everyone played their hardest this game and it showed with 8-1 Win! Other amazing game plays and goals were made by Alexis, Kaeleigh, Brittany, Libby and Slayde, which couldn't have been done without the assistance of the entire team!
If this is what the Areva Bantam Girls LL have in store for us, it should be a rewarding and exciting season!
