PeeWee Kinucks continue to exceed expectations - Silverstick Finalists
Having grabbed the Lucknow Legion Tournament championship, back in November, the Legion sponsored Kincardine PeeWee Kinucks had been showing some strong form, in preparation for the Regional Silverstick. In truth, we're talking about a team that little was expected from at the beginning of the season, following a continued exodus of talented players to AAA hockey. It's possibly this background that makes the teams progress even more impressive. Including the aforementioned Lucknow Tournament, these young Kinucks headed into the Silverstick with only 2 losses in the last 13 games. Their more recent victories were a 2-0 win over the BCH Ice Dogs and a 6-1 demolition of the Minto Mad Dogs.

The Kinucks carried their well organized and hard skating style into the Silverstick tournament, opening with a 6-3 win over the Walkerton Capitals. Having been called up from the Atom Rep Team Quinton Pagé would make an immediate impact, scoring a hat trick in his first game. The other goals were collected by the impressive Brett Hagan (2+1) and captain Jordan Beisel (1+2). Other Players collecting assists were Kayne Lee, Mack Beisel, Ben Voskamp, Jacob Cuillerier, Cody McClelland and Carson Fletcher.

Next up would be a 2-2 tie with the Mitchell Meteors, where both Carson Boettinger and Cam Fletcher deserve a mention for the efforts that they put in, at both ends of the ice.

Following this would be a 3-2 win over the Tavistock Titans. This one was a 'barn burner' as Kayne Lee scored the winning goal with only 5 seconds remaining on the clock! This goal was really all about the efforts of team captain Jordan Beisel, winning the face off in his own end, beating the defenceman, flying down the left wing and making the perfect pass for Lee's clinical finish. Tavistock proved to be some tough opposition and defensive work from the likes of Holden Stevenson, Mitch Pyke, Mack Beisel, Jacob Cuillerier and Ben Voskamp had helped to keep the team in this position and not forgetting some stellar goal keeping from Ryan Tanner.

A Mitch Pyke goal from a Brett Hagan assist would be enough to close out the group stages with a 1-1 tie against the Listowell Cyclones. Again, taking his turn in net, goalie Gordie Reaume would provide a superb display in this game.

The home crowd in a packed Davidson Centre would provide a terrific atmosphere for the PeeWee Kinucks as they faced the Listowell Cyclones. Despite taking an early lead through Kayne Lee, the Kinucks would end up with a 4-1 loss against the same Cyclones team that were the OMHA 'All Ontario' Champions in 2013/2014.

Great credit should go to these young players and their coaching staff of Dustin Catto, Mike McDonald, Brandon Wilson and Dane Dunlop. This last tournament brought their more recent form to 3 losses in the last 18 games, which isn't too bad for a team that nobody really expected too much from!
