If you're a fan of watching minor hockey, do you self a favor, check out the schedules and go watch the Canadian Legion sponsored Kincardine Peewee Kinucks, Rep Team! They have collected two tournament championships in recent weeks, as they added both the Canadian Legion Lucknow trophy and the Gene Harrington Invitational (USA v Canada) in Buffalo, New York, to their collection.
Without putting too much on the shoulders of this young team, it's largely the same group that were edged out in the OMHA, All Ontario Final, two years ago, having collected much silverware en route. Who knows what the future has in store for these kids, but they're certainly looking good at this moment in time.
In both tournaments the Kinucks would have to fight through bouts of illness and claim the championships with a shortened bench. The Lucknow Tournament saw the Kinucks edge out a strong South Huron team in a 1-0 victory. The Gene Harrington Classic was a different story, as some of the bigger centers were in for a shock when the Kinucks came to town and wiped the floor with everyone they faced. Kincardine beat teams from New York and Illinois as they made there way through to the final. Facing the Ajax Knights in the final, its fair to say that the kids from the city were shell shocked as the Kinucks unleashed a 12-1 final victory.
Solid goaltending and defense, speed, aggression and skill. This team can certainly demonstrate all of these things.
