Year End Tournament
The final weekend of hockey brought the Girls out last weekend for the year end tournament.

The girls would play a total of four games across two days and put forward outstanding effort with some of the best games of hockey we’ve seen them play this year.

In the first game the Girls went up against TCDMHA in Lucknow.  TCD has been an outstanding team all year long exhibiting extraordinary stamina and work ethic.  The Kinucks respond well to the challenge with each game, however.  Most exciting in this game might have been for Brette Stewart who had her first experience attempting a penalty shot!  While the only goal for the Kinucks would chime in during the third period, it was a fast and hard-fought game by both teams.  Special shout-out to goal-setter Aera Armstrong assisted by Lilah Rock.  Final score 1:3 for TCD.

Game two, again in Lucknow, set the girls up against Owen Sound, another formidable team in the loop.  The Girls had their game-faces on this weekend, however, and played an outstanding game.  In the first, the Ice Hawks were the only side to put one in the net.  In the second, however, the Kinucks took the lead, first with a breakaway by Aera Armstrong, and then moments later with another breakaway, this time by Sadie White.  In the third period, Avery Boulton scored with an assist from Emily Drake.  The Ice Hawks found the net one last time, but the Kinucks remained in control and came out with a win!  Final score 3:2 for the Kinucks!

In Game three, the Girls were up bright and early for a trip to Wingham against the Walkerton Capitals.  Another stellar game for the Kinucks as Defensive lines blocked progressions and Forwards maneuvered through Capitals for a total of 4 goals.  The first period saw a goal by Center Avery Boulton assisted by Aera Armstrong and Lilah Rock.  In the second, Gracie MacIntosh scored assisted by Brette Stewart and Lilah Rock.  The third period saw two goals for the Kinucks, the first by Jaelyn Price assisted by Sadie White, and the second by Aera Armstrong, assisted by Avery Boulton.  Final score 4:0 for the Kinucks.

After Game three, the Kinucks hung back at the arena to watch the Ice Hawks play TCD.  It was an important game that would determine if the Kinucks had earned enough points to make it to the finals.  With fingers crossed and heavy anticipation, spectators cheered as TCD won over the Ice Hawks, signaling that our favourite team in Orange and Black would be playing in the final tournament game!

Game four then, against the Rebels, took place back in Lucknow.  It might have been the fastest game of the year and both teams put it all on the ice.  In the first, the Rebels scored twice.  The Kinucks, never wavering in their efforts, persisted and Avery Boulton scored in the second assisted by Lilah Rock and Jaelyn Price.  The Rebels came back to place another one in the Kinuck’s net.  In the Third, the Girls gave it their all, and Aera Armstrong scored for the Kinucks on a breakaway.  The Girls continued in their efforts against the Rebels, earn a respectful, well deserved silver medal!

Congratulations to both the Kinucks and the Rebels in their game-play all year.  What an exciting way to finish the year!!

Note to All:  Thank you for a wonderful year!  It’s been a pleasure getting to know the Team and their families!  We are grateful to (and for) you all for all of the fun this year.
