Bantams Defeat Blyth, Tie Walkerton
Submitted By Ivan Mangotich on Friday, December 04, 2009
The Kincardine West Shore Bantam Rep girls played two games the last week of November, defeating Blyth 8-0, and tying Walkerton, 1-1.
November 21 the Bantam girls faced off against Blyth. Kincardine opened the scoring when Vanessa Hodgins took a shot from the blue line that slipped through everyone's legs to reach the target. Jessica Satosek and Victoria Krulicki assisted. Cassidy Colhoun, from Satosek and Krulicki, made the score 2-0. The first period ended 3-0 with Krulicki's bullet to the back of the net.

West Shore scored four times in the second period. Krulicki popped in Courtney Surridge's rebound, assisted by Laura Mangotich . Shortly afterwards Dakota Smith and Colhoun passed to Jordan Murchie who scored Kincardine's fifth goal of the night. Murchie then helped Surridge beat the Blyth goalie, and two minutes later Surridge scored again, assisted by Madison McFadden and Vanessa Hodgins to end the period 7-0. The scoring barrage slowed down in the third period with Kincardine's final goal of the evening being scored by McFadden on a fine passing play from Kristy Parsons and Murchie.
The West Shore girls had a more challenging contest when they travelled to Walkerton on November 26. Kristen Derksen fired off an accurate shot from the point to score first on a pass from Colhoun and Surridge. Goalie Morgan Baker showed lightning fast reflexes, darting to the opposite side of net to make a fantastic save in the last seconds of the period to maintain Kincardine's lead. The second period was scoreless, and defence partners Mangotich/Derksen and Parsons/Smith worked hard to protect netminder Baker and keep Kincardine in the lead. Early in the third period, Walkerton managed to slip one in the net, tying the game, and in spite of some skilful passing by McFadden and Mikhayla Bowes and a terrific rush by Krulicki, Kincardine was not able to light up the scoreboard again and had to settle for the 1-1 tie.
