New Year, New Hockey!
Submitted By Ivan Mangotich on Sunday, January 03, 2010
After a nearly 2 week layoff, the Kincardine West Shore Bantam Girls headed out to Blyth Saturday January 2nd for a game with the Ice Dogs.  The girls were short handed with just 8 skaters. A sluggish first period saw the girls fall behind late in the first, 1-0. Madison McFadden answered immediately on a great individual effort, breaking through the defence and beating the Blyth goalie with a great deke.

The girls got their legs going in the second, ripping off four unanswered goals, three coming from Victoria Krulicki giving her the hat trick for the period. The second goal was set up by Courtney Surridge and the third by Mikhayla Bowes.  The fourth goal came on a nice hard point shot from Laura Mangotich.

Following the flood, the girls kept the tempo up, scoring early in the third on a nice three way passing play initiated by Surridge to Cassidy Colhoun and finished by Bowes.  An unassisted goal late in the third from Colhoun
salted this game away.  Kinucks 7, Ice Dogs 1.  Strong goaltending from Morgan Baker and good defensive play from Vanessa Hodgins and Kristy Parsons served the girls well as this was truly an exhaustive game.

In previously unreported results, the Bantam girls thumped Beaver Valley 15-1 on a road trip to Thornbury December 19.  Mikhayla Bowes played a very strong game with 2 goals and 3 assists.  Krulicki added 5 goals to the tally and Jordan Murchie, Surridge, McFadden and Colhoun each had 4 point games.  Kristen Derksen and Hodgins both contributed nice goals from the point.

The West Shore squad defeated Owen Sound at home 6-0 on December 20.  Colhoun led the way with a hat trick.  Goals were also scored by Krulicki, Surridge and Maddy Duncan with assists going to Murchie (3), Parsons (2), Krulicki, McFadden and Hodgins.

Next up for the girls is the Woodstock Wildcats Tournament this weekend, January 8-10.  Good Luck Girls!
