Hawgs Breath Midget girls compete in the 29th Annual Walter Gretzky Tourney

The weekend of February 26th, the Kincardine midget Girls Rep. team traveled to Brantford to participate in the Walter Gretzky tournament.

The first game was against some familiar faces. Kincardine beat the Owen Sound Ice Hawks 3-1. Hawg’s Breath tallied first with a goal from Morgan Padfield. Assisting her was Taylor Nashiem and Kaitlyn McDonnell. By the end of the first period, Owen Sound had scored evening the score to one apiece. The second period saw a lone Kincardine goal scored by Cayly Bellan from a pass by McDonnell making it 2-1. A lone marker in the third by Jenna Rees cemented a 3-1 victory over the Ice Hawks. Assists go to Bellan and Cosette French.

The second game was against St. Clair. Kincardine lost a hard fought game by the score of 5-2. Both of the Kincardine goals were scored in the second period. First onto the score sheet for Kincardine was French with an assist from Bellan and Emily Elphick. Bellan scored the other Kincardine goal with a pass from French.

The final game was played against Flamborough with Kincardine coming out victorious. Hawg’s Breath defeated Flamborough 4-0. In the first period two goals were scored, both by McDonnell. Assists go to Padfield, Maddie Doerr and Nashiem. Padfield scored the lone goal in the second with assists from McDonnell and Nashiem. The final goal scored in the third by Elphick secured a Kincardine win.
Goaltending efforts were shared by Meagan MacDonald and Kortney Watson.

Unfortunately, the points accumulated in a 2-1 record in the round robin, it was not enough to continue in the tournament.

Year End playoffs begin March 26th weekend.
