LL2 Wins game 1 of playoffs!
Submitted By Walton on Tuesday, February 16, 2010
Excitement was in the air this past Saturday as the Kincardine Cable TV Novice LL2 prepared to meet their evenly matched opponents (and friends!), the Kincardine Novice LL1 team.  Friends said a quick hello to each other at the Davidson center before putting on their game faces – for the next hour, friends were to become rivals.

LL1 tallied the first goal as Jordan Moulton powered his way down the ice and lifted the puck over our goalie, Trent Courtney.  LL2 was not about to be outdone and answered that challenge at four minutes into the second period.  Kevin Coady, assisted by Matt Walton, broke free along the boards and shot the puck between the pipes, bringing the score up to an even 1-1.  LL2 held it together, even during a power play as Andrew MacDonald was sent off for tripping.  Trent Courtney did a great job of stopping anything that came his way.

Things became tense as the game progressed.  A penalty shot was awarded to LL1's sniper!  Moulton had Courtney beat but at the last second, the puck slid just wide of the net.  A collective sigh of relief was heard from the LL2 side of the stands.  LL1 came back with another goal during the third period.  Down by 2-1, it seemed that the LL2 team would remain the underdogs, always putting forth a great effort but not quite able to come out on top.  Everything changed when not a minute later, Georgia Tanner and Spencer Walton assisted Ethan Petrie in a goal that knotted the score at 2-2.  The buzzer sounded and everyone waited breathlessly.  The game would continue into sudden death overtime!

We began the overtime period with a renewed spirit, even though bodies were beginning to tire.  It didn’t take long for LL2 to dig deep and summon up the last bit of energy left.  Ethan Petrie and Georgia Tanner assisted Spencer Walton in a goal that sent the fans out of their seats cheering.  Hustler of the game awards were given to Joanne Page and Abby Swann.  Strong games by Marcell Platt, Andrew MacDonald and Drae Parcy on defence as well as Logan Hall, Chloe Pagé and Laura Fohkens as forwards.  Great job, Kincardine LL2!
