WE WON! WE WON! WE WON!

After a disappointing loss on Saturday to Normanby in a game that the kids felt sure would be their first win, the coaches and parents took the Kincardine Atom LL#2 to Owen Sound for dinner and to watch the Owen Sound Attack take on the Kitchener Rangers for a little team bonding. This must have sparked the LL#2 team because in Sundays game, they came out firing on all cylinders (8cyls not the little 4 cyls).

At the first drop of the puck LL#2 let LL#1 know what they were going up against.  The play was quick and passes were crisp. Before you knew it, it was LL#2 up 3-0. Josh F. made some pretty moves and stuffed the puck in behind LL#1 goalie to make it 1-0 with 4:41 left to play in the first period. Josh’s’ goal was unassisted. Just 22 seconds later following hot on the heels and riding the wave of their first goal, Austin M scored for his first goal of the game. Austin was set up beautifully by Brady M and Brydon N. Not letting the dust settle, the duo of Austin and Brydon were hot as they were at it again on the same shift. Brydon put a tape to tape pass right to Austin who scored again just 1:05 seconds later. This was Austin’s second goal of the game. The period came to an end with an awesome 3-0 lead.

The second period started much the same as the first, however LL#1 got the first goal of the period but LL#2 would not let them steal the spotlight as just 1:30 later LL#2 netted their 4th goal of the game. Sam C came down on the left wing with Josh F skating down the middle. As every good winger does Sam took the shot and Josh went straight to the net. The goalie stopped the puck but Josh was there to pick up the rebound and made sure that the puck was in the net before he stopped swatting at it. The second period ended with a trade off of goals. Score after the second was LL#2 – 4, LL#1 – 1.

The third period was no sleeper either as LL#2 got two more goals compared to LL#1 getting one. The fifth goal by LL#2 was scored by Austin again to complete his hat trick. He was fed a great pass by Justin M who deked around one defender to get the puck to Austin. After a brief HAT clean up that the parents felt was a much needed celebration of Austin’s hat trick; play resumed. With just 2:13 remaining in the game and to cement the victory, good ole Georgia F was up to her usual tricks. Not to be out done by her male team mates, Georgia took a pass that started with Brady M and Tyler D and scored LL#2’s 6th goal.

Finally, what can you say about LL#2’s goalie.  Liam M stood on his head to seal the deal. Not wanting the same results from the game before (now history), Liam did everything possible to make sure his team got the massive win. Liam stopped 25 of 27 shots that the LL#1 team threw at him eliminating almost every chance.

Final score was 6-2

Maybe coach Dave should take the kids to dinner and an Attack game every time!

In all, every player deserves to hold their heads high as this was a VICTORY to remember. Great job to all on LL#2. This would not have been a win if everyone didn’t contribute to the best of their abilities. Look forward to the next game.
