Officials perform a vital role in the game at all levels and are the third team on the ice, without whom the game would not happen. The Hockey Canada Officiating Program is for anyone interested in officiating the game of hockey, from beginners to seasoned veterans. There are six levels in the Officiating program, from those looking to get started to the top tier of officials. The lower levels are designed to get you started in officiating, while the higher levels are open to officials who have advanced through the lower levels and show potential to work the top levels of hockey in Canada, and Internationally. This is a great way to get involved, stay involved or see what the game is like for the other side of the whistle. Please see below for the two local dates for the entry level officiating clinics (not the recertification clinics). Please pass this along to anyone you know who may be interested in becoming an on ice official in the OMHA. link to the OMHA Officials webpage for additional information.

TO: OMHA Registered HCOP Officials
FROM: Dave Wedlake, Chair of OMHA Referees Program
SUBJECT: CRC/VSS – Registration Process 2017-2018 Season

With the approach of the 2017-18 season, it is important for Officials to ensure they are eligible to access the program. It is necessary, and it is your responsibility as an official to ensure the following items are attended to.

Please ensure that your profile in the Hockey Canada Registry (HCR) reflects that a current Criminal Record Check or Vulnerable Sector Screening CRC/VSS is on file.

All Officials are strongly encouraged, if you haven’t already done so, to create an eHockey account in the Hockey Canada Registry (HCR). This will be necessary in order for you to access the 2017-2018 Recertification online learning module and National Exam.

Instructions on creating your eHockey account are resident on the Referee Page of the OMHA website, as well as the OMHA officials’ eLearning page.

Through logging into your eHockey account, you can also verify the status, including expiration date, of your CRC/VSS in your profile under the ‘CRC’ tab.

Many officials have an expiry that is identified as May 1, 2017. Officials in this category must obtain and submit a new Criminal Record Check or Vulnerable Sector Screening Check to the OHF before you will be allowed access to the program.

This will be a condition of your Registration to access the online learning module and National Exam for the 2017-2018 season. This notification should provide you sufficient lead time in securing and submitting to ensure your access to the program.

• On-Ice Officials under the age of 18 years must provide a Criminal Record Check.
• On-Ice Officials aged 18 years and over must provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening Check. When requesting the VSS, you may be required to provide a letter (attached) to your local police service. Receipts are acceptable as suitable for submission if you have initiated the process of obtaining the CRC/VSS.
• If your CRC shows as expiring beyond the 2017-18 season, you must complete and submit the Criminal Offence Declaration (attached).

Criminal Offence Declaration Form: This form, which is also attached, is to be completed by officials who have a CRC/VSS on file and has not expired, and must be completed in full, signed, and submitted to the OHF office.

Please ensure submission of your CRC/VSS or Criminal Offence Declaration through one of the following methods:

Scan and email:
