KINCARDINE STOP THE STORM
Written by Barry Culmer

The Legion PeeWee Rep Kinucks played their fourth game of the regular season against the Saugeen Shores Storm on 7 January with the Storm looking for their first win. The boys started strongly but the Storm gradually took the upper hand, Ethan Primeau making a great save from a 2 on 1 rush to keep them out. But 5 minutes from the end of the period Saugeen Shores took the lead on a power play with their captain Ben Van Ooteghem unable to extend the lead when clean through with 50 seconds left.

The second period was equally tight, both teams setting up exciting plays and having chances before Ethan Long tied it up 1.55 from the end from Scott McFarlan. A penalty right on the horn saw Kincardine start the third period a man down from which Saugeen Shores scored their second power play goal of the night, the Kinucks failing to clear the puck. There’s nothing our boys like better than the challenge of coming from behind! That’s just what they did, stepping up their game with three goals in the middle five minutes of the period. Brett Burrows tied it up assisted by Garret McFadden and Shane Vollmer. Then a brace by Shane Vollmer, who threatened all game, put Kincardine in the driving seat at 4-2. Assists went to Dalton Hayes, Kurt Dunsbier and Marshall Smith.

Congratulations to the boys on going 27-5-1 in the regular league and tournament season to date, with first place in the WOAA standings. Now to the serious stuff with the play-offs, starting against Goderich, and the International Silver Stick.
