LISTOWEL EDGE PEEWEE REP

It was always going to be a close series and the first playoff game between the Kincardine Legion Peewee Rep boys and the Listowel Cyclones lived up to the billing. After an end to end start with Listowel taking the game to the Legion boys, Kincardine gradually got the upper hand in the first period. They finished strongly, the puck somehow refusing to go into the Listowel net just before the horn. The second period was more of the same, Kincardine playing well and killing their only penalty of the game. Despite many opportunities and shots on net, they couldn’t force the breakthough. Listowel always offered a threat on the break and their goaltender stood up strongly to everything thrown at him by the Kinucks

After more pressure from Kincardine right from the face off in the third, they took the opportunity of a Listowel penalty to break the deadlock three and a half minutes in with an unassisted Garrett McFadden goal. Sensing the opportunity to grab a second, the Kinucks stepped up the pace, Ethan Skinner firing just wide on a breakaway. But the Listowel goalie continued to block them while his teammates threatened when given the chance, eventually scoring midway through the period with Kincardine caught shorthanded in defence. With the game tied up at one apiece at the end of normal time, Listowel sneaked the winner just under two minutes into overtime to take the first game of five in the series. You played well boys but just couldn’t get that puck in the net. Keep it up and take the second game of the series in Listowel on Sunday!
