Mitchell Tournament Champions!
The West Shore Kinucks Girls Bantam team participated in the Mitchell Meteors Girls Hockey tournament the weekend of October 23-25.
Friday morning saw the girls take on the Wolves of Whitby. Our hometown girls came out flying getting great scoring chances early. The Whitby goaltender was equal to the task and turned away several opportunities. Once the dam was breached by Mikhayla Bowes early in the second the girls pumped in three more in the third. Penalty trouble allowed the opposition back into the game but by then it was too late. The girls skated away with an impressive 4-2 win. Goals from Bowes, Jordan Murchie, Cassidy Colhoun and Kristen Derksen with assists going to Murchie, Courtney Surridge, Madison McFadden and Colhoun.

The afternoon game pitted the girls against the Sabres of South Huron.  This game was much tighter  with great goaltending on both sides.   McFadden broke the stalemate while on the PK with a great rush off the wall beating the formidable Sabre goalie on the short side.  The Kinucks hung on for a 1-0 win.  Assisting on this goal was  Surridge.

After the game the girls were thrilled with a visit from their recovering coach Bob Surridge. This was a very emotional moment with not a dry eye in the room.

The girls' final round robin game was quite a spirited affair against the hometown Meteors of Mitchell. With two girls home sick with the flu, two AP players saved the day.  Vanessa Hodgins and Dani Watterworth played outstanding.  This rough and tumble game did however come with a casualty. Mikhayla Bowes had her wrist broken early in the first period.  When hockey was forefront Kincardine dominated this game skating the homeside into the ice and coming away with a 3-1 victory.                Early second period goals  were; Victoria Krulicki from Colhoun,  and  Murchie from Dakota Smith.

This game was capped off with an amazing rush by Erica Gade who went the full length of the ice circling the Mitchell net and sliding a great feed to Surridge who burried the pass.

The championship game  Sunday Afternoon featured a 3-0 Kincardine squad once again facing South Huron.  The Kinucks came out flying with a display of hockey skill and excecution that was nothing short of fantastic.  They outshot the opponents 14-2 in the first frame registering a 1-0 lead on a beautiful spinning backhander from Surridge.  A heavy forecheck in the second speared by Jessica Satosek and led to several chances culminating in a great goal from the point.  Scoring for Kincardine was Laura Mangotich from Colhoun and Murchie.   South Huron managed a goal late to make this game frantic in the end.  However,  the defence of Gade, Watterworth, Smith and Mangotich coupled with great goaltending from Baker sealed the Championship.

Great job ladies.  What a great start to a very promising season.
