Green and Black go Head to Head
This weeks action saw team#1 (Green) play 2 games in 3 days against the league leading Team#4 (Black).Game 1 would take place Thursday night at the Tiverdome. Black would start the first period with immense pressure and end it in similar fashion, carrying the majority of the play. Bryan Nicholson, playing in between the pipes for team Green, was on his game and made numerous quality stops. Casey Beisel of team black was thwarted 3 times in the period on breakaways, twice by Nicholson and once by the post. Team Black was aided by the strong play of David Ulak and Nathan Arnold on the point, constantly keeping the puck deep and the pressure on team Green. First period 0-0.
Despite the strong play of Mitch Hackett, Ella Jones and Liam Hunter on defence for
team Green, Black still attacked the Green cage in waves and Nicholson was up to
the task turning breakaway after breakaway to the side.
Green's best chance
in the period came off of the stick of Liam Hunter on a partial break but was
turned away leaving the second period like the first, tied at 0.
In the
third, Team Green tried to apply some pressure from the forwards Graeden
Colhoun, Tyler Johns, Morgan Talbot, Halley Pletch, Jake Wall, Blake Edwards,
Sarah Mullen and Sean McArthur but could not sneak one past the black keeper.
With 5 minutes remaining in the third Team Black pounced on a giveaway and ended
the scoreless tie, Black 1 - Green 0. Team Green tried to push in the final 5
minutes, but to no avail, and when David Ulak score late in the period on a
breakaway
Final score Black 2 - Green o
Green (team#1) vs Black
(team#4)
The rematch to Thursday's game, took place at 11 AM in the
Kincardine Davidson centre.
Green with Thursdays game still fresh in their
minds, would strike first. Streaking down the left wing on a feed from Morgan
Talbot, Graeden Colhoun would fire the puck on the short side beating the Team
Black tender and putting his team up 1-0. Team Black would answer with a goal of
their own before the period was out toying the game at one apiece. Even though
a strong amount of pressure was placed on both goalies, including a grazed post
and missed open net, both teams would go home with a point. A 1-1
tie.
Good work team Green and Team Black!!
