Kincardine Kinucks 6 – West Grey Huskies 2
The Home Hardware-sponsored Kincardine Novice Kinucks began their build up to play-off hockey, with a fairly comfortable win in Durham, last weekend.
The Huskies game followed on from the Ayton Tournament where the Kinucks
picked up a comprehensive 9-2 victory, against local rivals Saugeen Shores
Storm. The win gave the team a chance to progress to the finals, if they could
get past the Stayner Cyclones. Unfortunately, this proved not to be the case,
as the Cyclones came out on top, in a 4-2 game.
The Stayner match-up would be memorable for two reasons; The
Cyclones goalie, being the first, as he proved to be in absolutely incredible form, taking his
team through to the final almost single handed. As good a goalie display as it
was, there was one thing that he was unable to prevent. Noah Swann picked up
his 100th goal of the season! This feat was completed in only 29
games. A simply fantastic achievement!
Focusing on the Huskies game, Coach Greg Tanner rang out some
positional changes with both Cody McLelland and Sam MacTavish playing as
centres. This would mean that the high scoring Noah Swann would be deployed on
the wing, as was the hard skating Quinton Pagé . These changes would also see
the ‘Brock Star’ Brock Courtney line up on the blue line, with the ever reliable
Holden Stevenson. Kwade ‘The Berlin Wall’
Beisel would line up between the pipes!
Carson Fletcher and Jared Houghton would also continue their
impressive recent form with typical all action, hard skating, displays.
The Huskies did take an early lead in this game, as the
Kinucks looked a little shell shocked! However, the lead was short-lived as
Noah Swann tied things up, straight from the face off.
Overall, the Huskies were showing some big improvement when
comparing against earlier season encounters. That said, they simply could not
contain the Kinucks offensive talent. One player that is rarely mentioned
offensively, is Noah Page. In the first period, he can count himself very
unfortunate not to have got on the score sheet, when he rushed in and shot on the
Huskies goalie, having collected a pass from his defensive partner Cam
Fletcher.
Two other players can also feel aggrieved not to have scored
goals in this game. Wingers Ryan Tanner and Jesse Pagé did everything but score, although Tanner did collect an assist on the Kinucks third goal.
As hard as the Huskies battled, the Kinucks ended up
with the 6-2 victory. Scorers in the game were: Noah Swann (3), Cody McLelland
(2+1(1Cody McLelland (2), Quinton Cafe
the Kinucks ended up with the 6-2 victos in the the case ), Quinton Pagé
(1). The remaining assists went to Jared Houghton and the previously mentioned Ryan
Tanner.
An excellent overall effort from both teams.
