Presto Crest Peewee AE team has great showing at Silver Stick Regional. In the Silver Stick opener, Kincardine took on Paris and came out victorious with a 4-3 win. Kaleb Brough scored three times including the winner with less than minute to play in the third. Stevens chipped in with a goal, with Logan Wolfe, Ben Netzke, Craig Luinstra and Leschied recording assists on the four goals. In their second game, the Kinucks faced Strathroy looking to avenge a loss earlier in the season. Strong forechecking led by Corey Howse, Brett Colhoun and Owen Hunsburger frustrated the opposition and led to the first Kincardine goal as Brendan Murchie picked up a stray clearing attempt and scored from the blueline to put Kincardine up part way through the second period. Brough continued with the hot hand and scored short handed to add to the Kincardine lead. Strathroy managed to score early in the third to get within one but goalie Craig Lunistra shut the door for the Kincardine win. With a spot in the quarter finals on the line, the Kinucks played Lucan and got off to a quick start carrying the play from the opening faceoff. Brough opened the scoring with assists going to Dunlop and Murchie. The Kincardine defence of Alex Knowles, Netzke, Potter and Murchie kept Lucan at bay until late in the third when goalie Jordon Gauthier stole the show making a number of point blank saves to seal the 1-0 victory and clinch top spot in their pool. Kincardine struck early in their quarter final game against Ayr with Dunlop scoring twice in the first period. Ayr fought back to tie the game in the second and controlled play in the third with Luinstra standing tall in net to send the game into overtime. With the fans on the edge of their seats, the first 10 minutes of OT didn’t solve anything. Midway through the second OT, Stevens forced a giveaway and fired a shot that the Ayr goalie saved but Brough pounced on the rebound to record the winner. With only a short break between games, the Kinucks ran out of gas in the semi finals against Lincoln but left the ice to a standing ovation from their fans. The highlight of the game for Kincardine was a penalty shot save by Gauthier. The boys will be looking to continue their strong play as they travel to Bracebridge this weekend for another tournament.
