Tara tournament

It was an early morning drive that brought the Kincardine Cable TV Novice team to Tara on Saturday January 23rd.  The first game opponent was the Chatsworth Rebels.  Our players were fresh and strong and played a great game of hockey.  Marcelle Platt has been proving herself a strong defensive player as were Ethan Petrie and Georgia Tanner.  Kevin Coady had a strong shot on net from the blue line.  Matthew Walton kept the pressure on with another shot aimed straight between the pipes.  We could not seem to find the hole to get the puck past the goalie.  Finally, right at the end of the first period, Ethan Petrie skated the puck up, passed it to Spencer Walton who fired it into the net.  Score 1-0 Kincardine!

In the second period,  Draeden Parcey fought to keep the puck in our offensive zone alongside Andrew McDonald.  Chloe Pagé had a shot on net which was denied by the Rebels goalie.  Ethan Petrie consistently skated the puck up the ice and had a hard shot on net – but it hit the pipe and ricocheted off to the side.  With the fans sitting on the edge of their seats breathlessly watching, Matthew Walton skated the puck down the ice but was denied by the goal keeper.  Instead, the puck found its way around the back of the net and was knocked in by Georgia Tanner.  Period Two ended with some action in front of our net but Trent Courtney stood firm and strong, as usual!

In the final period, Joanne Page knocked the puck into the offensive zone with Logan Hall assisting.  Kevin Coady had a shot on net.  In the last three minutes of the game, Trent Courtney made no fewer than three saves, bringing his tally up to nine saves for the game.  The buzzer sounded and the game ended with our novice team winning 2-0.  MVP for the game was awarded to Ethan Petrie.

Game Two was set for early afternoon against the Arran Elderslie IceDogs.  Initially, it was an evenly matched battle for the two "A-side" teams.  The first period saw three saves by Trent Courtney.  Joanne Page chased the puck down the ice but it was as if the puck was magnetically repulsed by the IceDogs net – every time we brought it near, it somehow found its way in the opposite direction.  Laura Fohkens and Abby Swann skated hard and displayed their expertise on the ice.  By the end of the third period, Trent Courtney made no fewer than six saves but the IceDogs came on strong in the final period and the Kincardine Cable TV novice team went down 7-0.  MVP for the game was awarded to Georgia Tanner.  Our novice team put up a good fight and played well as a team while displaying excellent sportsmanship.
