Bantam Boys in Huntsville
Article submitted by Barry Culmer
On October 15th the Kincardine Bantam Rep boys trod in the footsteps of the G8 world leaders.

They travelled to the magnificent Canada Summit Centre in Huntsville, built for the world summit earlier this year, to play their in their first tournament of the season.

Despite only one regular season game prior to the tournament and playing on unfamiliar Olympic size ice, the boys got off to a flying start in their first game against the Almaguin Ice Devils with a 3-1 victory.  Going into the third period at 1-1 on an Austin Rees goal, assisted by Derrick Bernath and Shane Vollmer, a pair by Brody Hayes in the first two minutes of the period assisted by Chase Ambeau(2) and Payton Dunlop gave the Kinucks the edge.

Kincardine took the lead in game 2 against the Hamilton Phantoms through Jordan Bell assisted by Ambeau and Hayes, only to give one up on a loose puck in front of the net.  Still at 1-1 with five minutes to the horn in the third the game turned into a barnstormer.  First Hamilton took the lead at 2-1 only for Bell to tie it up unassisted off a Hamilton defenceman.  Another Hamilton goal 1:30 from time had the Kincardine fans worried but Rees assisted by Vollmer tied it up for the never say die Kinucks 22 seconds from time.

Needing a victory to guarantee a place in the semi-finals, Kincardine next took on the Dundas Blues who had looked strong in winning their two previous group games.  Dundas went ahead but one second from the end of the first period Rees on the power play.  Neither team could force the breakthrough in the second period but a Dundas goal at the start of the third period was enough to carry them through despite a strong performance between the pipes by goaltender Kevin Chau.

The boys headed home from Muskoka 1-1-1 with much to build on as the season ramps up.
