After a two week break from league action, the Bantam Rep Tim-Br Mart boys hosted the fourth placed Walkerton Capitals on 18 December having beaten the Caps 9-2 in late November.Despite missing four regular players it looked like the Kinucks might repeat the same margin of victory when they raced to a 3-0 lead in the first period while also ringing a shot of an upright. Scott McFarlan opened the scoring five minutes in from Sam Culmer and Brent McDonald. Call-up Ethan Long got the second from Marshall Smith and Jordan Bell the third assisted by Brody Hayes and Long.
Despite being three goals down, the Walkerton top line had caused the Kinucks’ defense some problems and they rattled Kincardine with two goals inside a minute mid-way through the second period. The Tim-Br Mart boys fought back but the Capitals’ goaltender, who was strong all night, kept them at bay.
Nerves jangled on the Kincardine bench five minutes into the third when Walkerton, who had continued their momentum from the second period against a Kinucks who hadn’t really got into gear, tied the game up at 3-3. Could it be that their perfect record in the league to date was under threat? But Jordan Bell scored a crucial goal for Kincardine less than a minute later to restore the lead and a Walkerton team with a short bench having lost two players during the game through injury and a check from behind ran out of gas. Bell added another for his hat trick with under a minute to the horn, assisted by Hayes and McFarlan, to round out a 5-3 win.
Next up is a league game at home to Mount Forest on 23 December at 7.45 pm and the Regional Silver Stick starting on the 27th. Come out and support the boys!
