A New Year for the Oldstars!!!
Happy New Year Hockey fans!  Well, after a lengthy hiatus, the Old Stars hit the ice against Goderich on Saturday, Jan 8th.

I don't know if the boys were just eager to be back on their skates but they had an awesome game!  Kincardine opened up the scoring late in the first period when the Nikhil Deshpande shot the puck from the blue line and it was picked up by Brent McDonald who tossed it in the Goderich Sailor's net.  The Kincardine fans were treated to plenty of action in the second period; speedy Aidan Calcutt fired one in with line mates, Jared Allingham and Braeden Morgan assisting.  Deshpande was on fire and  netted Kincardine's third, ably assisted by Owen Hunsburger and Calcutt.  The Calcutt-Deshpande duo could do no wrong and lit up the scoreboard to mark Kincardine's fourth goal.  Rounding put the scoring was an unassisted goal by Joel Riggin who gave the puck mighty heave from the blue line.  The game was marked with great team passing, great checking and the two goalies, Brad Liddle and Matt Strader were outstanding between  the pipes.  5-0 Kincardine.  Nice way to start out the new year boys!

On January 9th the Old Stars  hosted Seaforth.  Seaforth opened the scoring in the first period only to have Kincardine answer the call 3 minutes later when Morgan caught the rebound from McDonald and Brough.  Kincardine coasted in the second period and chose not to pass to each other, nor were they playing a physical game and allowed Seaforth to net 2 additional goals.  The third period saw Kincardine kick it up several notches and saw positive results of their attack on the Seaforth defense with an awesome goal by Brough who picked up a great pass from McDonald.  Seaforth netted one with less than a minute and a half left in the third.  Kincardine did not sit on their laurels and continued to fire on the Seaforth net.  Wolfe got hold of the puck and set up Calcutt for the final goal of the game.  When all was said and done, Seaforth bested the Old Stars 4-3 but our boys learned some valuable lessons and played right tot the finish!
